Drake and Rihanna may have gone their separate ways when it comes to love, but the pair has reunited for a new collaboration. The Young Money rapper spilled the beans about their secret duet during a recent interview.
“I just did this great song with Rihanna so I hope we get to shoot a video for that too,” he revealed to one of our sources backstage at his Miami tour kick-off this week. “I’m really excited about that song.”
Drake had reportedly written for Rihanna in the past, but the material did not make her album. He was careful not to give away too much about their latest collabo, which will likely appear on Rihanna’s new album “Loud“, due November 16. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about that actually.”
The young stars were rumored to have dated in the past, but their brief relationship left Drizzy brokenhearted. “I was a pawn,” he told us. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear. I was like, ‘Wow, (more…)
Drake turned up the Miami heat when he kicked off his “Light Dreams and Nightmares” tour at the James L. Knight Center on Monday night . Drizzy upped the ante for his headlining trek in support of his debut album Thank Me Later, adding more lights, background singers, and additional time on stage. His Young Money labelmate Tyga replaced Clipse as the opening act and Birdman helped hold it down for Lil Wayne.
“This is my first time ever being able to create a world,” Drake told MTV News of his new stage setup. “Prior to this, I’ve had to create my world through performance. You literally have to get lost in the music to make you feel like you were somewhere else.”
The night before the opening show, Drake was seen celebrating his father’s birthday at upscale Asian eatery Philippe. The “Light Dreams and Nightmares” tour travels across the country, stopping in New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, wrapping Nov. 6 in Las Vegas, the day after Weezy is expected to be released from jail. As we speak, developments on Drake‘s world tour are in the final stages and we could see tickets for his UK tour hit the shelves as soon as a this year. Alongside that Drake has also dropped a few hints now and again that his second album which is as yet untitled is almost finished…so I’ll guess we’ll all have to wait! (more…)
A fitting homecoming is already being planned for Lil Wayne. The day after he is expected to be released from jail, the Cash Money rapper will celebrate by throwing a welcome home concert.
Drake made the announcement during his Ustream session on Thursday, saying it would take place on November 5, but an exact location was not disclosed. Drizzy has a show the day before in Los Angeles and the day after in Las Vegas. Lil Wayne is serving his time at Rikers Island in New York.
“Undisclosed location, November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” said Wayne’s protégé while sipping on Pinot Grigio in his Toronto crib. “You might as well camp out at all different locations. That’s gonna be crazy.” – Saying that i’m still wondering when Drake will begin his world wide arena tour? – Although announced by his label there was no follow up!
Lil Wayne has been serving time for weapons charges since March. He is expected to be released on November 4. His EP, “I Am Not a Human Being“, will arrive on his 28th birthday on September 27. I’m sure that this private concert for Lil Wayne will be the crème of the crème and I’m sure that Drake will line up everyone across the land to turn up to this…now let just hope no get arrested again! The MoMo Show was lucky enough to interview the first lady of Young Money Entertainment, Nicki Minaj at the London Savoy hotel. Ms. Minaj gave us a little in sight to her life! Hope you guys enjoy this one! (more…)
That’s right, the much awaited video to Nicki Minaj‘s single “Your Love” has dropped! Although “Your Love” was never intended to be released by the Young Money Group, however leaks on Youtube lead Nicki Minaj to garner her first solo #1 on the Billboard Rap 100 which made her the first solo female rapper to top the Rap Chart in 8 years!.
The video works well with the track, yet (dare I say it!) this is another recession friendly video – hey maybe that all the rage in the US at the moment! While seemingly low budget, the clip captured the essence of the song well without going the typical route that most Hip-Hop acts would have taken – clubs, stripper poles and money raining from the sky (no names need to be mentioned). Nicki Minaj looks remarkably “health” (and by that, maybe the budget was spend on making her face so god dam flawless!) in the video, and yes, she’s got a new set of weave!
“Your Love” has already climbed to #18 on the US Billboard hot 100, it’s release is expected in Europe this weekend titled “Your Love The EP”. Unlike “Massive Attack“, it’s nice to see Nicki Minaj do something toned down, however for many critics this video has confused them about what to expect from Nicki Minaj‘s album which is due to drop this November. Either way the track will do well, and at times the video does remind me of Beyonce’s “Check On It” – maybe they used the same silk sheets? Remember The MoMo Show is set to interview Nicki Minaj this August – so keep it locked for chances to win a meet and great with the first lady of Young Money! (more…)
Current holder of #1 on the Billboard Rap chart Nicki Minajhas shared her thoughts on what her boss Lil Wayne will do when he completes his one-year jail sentence.
She told us ”I speak to Wayne, he’s in great spirits. He’s hilarious, always making me laugh whenever I talk to him. He’s his same self it seems to me, just even more business-minded. I speak to him often.”
Nicki Minaj‘s new album is set to drop this year, and with a lot of hype around the Young Money group and suggested family tour – it all comes down to Lil Wayne‘s new material which should hit shelves as soon as he’s out!
“I know when he comes out, it’s gonna be a problem, ’cause he’s one of those people that needs to get out his thoughts. So I would imagine he would probably be in the studio for 60 days straight. He’ll probably do three albums the day he comes home.” – Although I question the realism behind that statement Nicki Minaj, there is doubt that Lil Wayne will have a much extended creative streak!
In other news The MoMo Show is set to interview Nicki Minaj this August! Keep it locked for more info and how you can meet her too! (more…)
Drake has managed to sell out his small theatre tour; now due to high demand Motown Records officials have decided along side Cash Money Records to begin a world size Arena Tour in late 2010 or early 2011. Drake is currently adding finishing touches to his album which is yet to be released; Drake spoke about being on tour “It’s been good, I really enjoy being on the road and connecting with the fans, that’s the most important thing”. With Drake set to take over radio during his summer it’s make a lot of sense to go on a larger tour with larger production budget.
Also Cash Money sources also hinted today that the tour could be a Label tour; meaning all acts under the Cash Money label could be a one huge world tour! (which is bound to sell out!). This would give acts such as Nicki Minaj, Tyga and Lil Wanye the chance to put on a show that has never been done before. With the Cash Money label even more diverse with R&B/Soul singer Lloyd and Pop singer Jay Sean (who will be probably pulled on this tour) the show should attract a lot of interest. Drake is now ranked #2 on Island Record’s Cash Money’s best selling artists after Lil Wanye – which ranks Drake 2010′s (years active) most successful rapper under the Island Def Jam/Motown umbrella. Both of Drake‘s singles “Over” and “Find Your Love” are climbing up the Billboard R&B/HipHop charts with “Over” peaking at #2 this week (more…)
This is the first track (in the style of a) Rock-Ballad from rapper Lil Wayne. This will act as the anthem to Lil Wayne‘s album “Rebirth” the week ending January 16, 2010, selling 162,526 downloads and debuting at #18, and now is climbing the charts again. Despite a generally negative reception for “Rebirth“, ”Drop the World” received reviews that were more positive. “Drop the World” was the most anticipated song from the album, partly because it features Eminem. With all respect, i’m slightly confused over this EP – Lil Wayne‘s style of rap has changed which is demonstrated through the album.
In addition rumours are that Lil Wayne is working on his new album “Tha Carter IV” which will be album number eight for the rapper. So far what we’ve been told is that this album will have no roots of previous rap-rock album “Rebirth“, however this album will be featured around the Young Money family. In other news it’s been confirmed that Cash Money Records will be doing a world tour with all acts, not that’s something i’m looking forward to.
Congratulations to the Young Money family who’s début group album went Platinum this week after it’s release in December 2009. I have also come to learn that since the departure of Jay Sean (bo-ho) We Are Young Money is the first collaboration studio album from Young Money Entertainment. It was released on December 21, 2009.Featured guests are recently-signed Young Money artist Short Dawg, Lloyd, Birdman, and Gucci Mane (i see…).
Although a little surprising, as many people expected this album not to do so well – come on now, who does a label family album? – was it a desperate cry for some more money to bail Lil’ Wayne out? The album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200, selling 143,000 in its first week. The album was met with mixed reviews from critics and did well on the Billboard chart. The next week, the album dropped down three spots to #12, selling 42,000 copies. However after continuous airplays of the group single “BedRock” and huge circulation of other tracks off the LP, the album just about managed to certify Gold! – still platinum is a far cry away, but as they say…We Are Young Money.
Things have seems to go from bad to worse for Jay Sean! After his quite departure form Cash Money Records, Jay Sean was signed to Island Records (for a quarter of his market value!) where work would begin on his next LP and to save what remains of his R&B Pop career.
Jay already been labelled as one hit wonder in the states his album “All or Nothing” (which dropped off the Billboard Hot 200 within weeks of it’s release), hasn’t done him and justice and in fact the album as a result has lowered dramatically in price. Further more (yes there is more…) Jay lost out in an opportunity to feature in Young Money singled “BedRock” which featured all artists off the Cash Money label, the main chorus was meant to be sung Jay Sean, a last minute decision by Label owner Lil’ Wayne then invited Lloyd to sing the chorus. “BedRock” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hip-Hop R&B charts (ouch! Jay, you missed out!).
With all that said, Jay Sean did manage to steal the show at the AMA (Asian Music Awards), however his current management seemed to keep quite about the move of label! All that said Jay Sean has got a lot of work to commit himself to in order not to damage what’s left of his career. With no confirmation about how far into development the next LP is or a release date it’s likely we will not be hearing from Jay Sean in while (and you can count on that, with ever penny under the Island Def Jam group being spent on Justin Bieber – Jay Sean is not really a priority at the moment…sorry Jay!).
