Nicki Minaj doesn’t know her twitter followers!
Feb 24th
Nicki Minaj has talked about how she can’t trust that all her Twitter followers are true supporters. At times I do wonder about Nicki Minaj, with this only being a début project, has the fame got to her and made her very insecure and paranoid? She told sources: “All of those people who follow me on Twitter? They aren’t my friends. Some of them are fans, but many of them are people who hate my guts and are just waiting for me to tweet something that they can put on their blogs. Yes that may be true, but surely Nicki Minaj knew that twitter was a door wide open to spin? Read the rest of this entry »

Things got hot and heavy on the set of Nelly’s “Gone” video co-starring Kelly Rowland. The collaborators hooked up in Cancun, Mexico, earlier this month to shoot the follow-up to their 2002 smash “Dilemma” with director Marc Klasfeld. In new images from the set, a shirtless Nelly and glowing Kelly are seen flirting by the pool and cuddling on the sandy shores at night. Nelly posts up at the poolside bar while Kelly reclines on a lounge chair in additional scenes. Read the rest of this entry »
“I’m Done With Collaborations” says Nicki!
Feb 21st

Nicki Minaj has claimed that she is “done” with collaborations… unless Britney Spears gives her a call. The Moment 4 Life rapper, who has appeared on tracks by the likes of Kanye West, Usher and Rihanna, has confessed that she will not be doing any more features for other artists in the foreseeable future. – Yay for her! I think it is Nicki Minaj‘s time to shine now, she built up her profile nicely through the collaboration route she just needs to work on putting together a winning tour and start working on that second album Read the rest of this entry »
Nicki Minaj doesn’t want your Pickle juice!
Dec 1st
Here we go! Nicki Minaj vents about getting served pickle juice in a clip from her MTV documentary “My Time Now,” airing Sunday at 10 p.m. (for the UK) After showing up to an unprofessional photo shoot where their budget isn’t up to snuff, the pink-haired rapper goes off about getting treated with the respect she deserves.
“I put quality in what I do. I spend time and I spend energyand I spend effort and I spend everything I have, every fiber of my being, to give people quality,” she barks. “So if I turn up to a photo shoot and you got a $50 clothes budget and some sliced pickles on a motherfuckin’ board, you know what? No. I am gonna leave. Is that wrong? Wanting more for myself? Wanting people to treat me with respect? You know what? Next time, they know better. But had I accepted the pickle juice, I would be drinking pickle juice right now.”
MTV documents Nicki Minaj’s rise to stardom for “Nicki Minaj: My Time Now.” The one-hour documentary follows the Pink Friday rapper, born Onika Maraj, as she performs at the VMAs, records the Eminem-assisted “Roman’s Revenge,” returns to her home of Trinidad, and surprises her mother with the keys to her own home. Laugh and cry with the Harajuku Barbie as she reveals the ambitious girl underneath the colorful wigs and wardrobe. For those in the UK, I guess you are going to have to wait till this Sunday on MTV ONE at 10p.m. Read the rest of this entry »
Drake’s “Take Care” will walk all over “Thank Me Later”
Dec 1st
Seems like Drake is taking the same approach to “Take Care” like he did with “Thank Me Later“. Drake who is currently touring and expected to hit the UK during February is recording his second album titled “Take Care” which is expected to hit stores April 2011.
Close sources to the Young Money rapper told us he is currently working with an underground producer called 9th Wonder and was photographed leaving a studio from where DJ Premier works in New York. Whilst industry press are still confused with the single line up of “Thank Me Later“, huge radio hits such as “Fancy“, “Shut It Down” and “Show Me A Good Time” never see the light of day for the singles shelf.
Yet again this just simply highlights the repeat mistakes that Young Money make when it comes down to the whole album launch and single line up - may I add the video for “Fancy” which featured T.I. and Swizz Beats was shot and ready to be sent to MTV when officials at the label decided to withdraw the entire single from commercial circulation.
From what out sources say, “Take Care” will walk all over “Thank Me Later“, with Universal Motown now more involved in the entire process of album (and Lil Wayne, who couldn’t take care of the business strategy as he was in prison) this LP may just push Drake even further in his already outstanding career. A big week for Hip-Hop!
Nov 29th
Hip-hop looks to dominate next week’s Billboard charts. After a week filled with high-profile releases, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj are on track to outsell the competition and take the top two spots. According to sources, which forecasts album sales, Kanye West’s highly-acclaimed fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is expected to sell 525-575,000 copies in its first week in stores, coming in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Meanwhile, ‘Ye’s collaborator Nicki Minaj will have a “Monster” opening week herself with 375-400,000 copies of her debut Pink Friday. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill currently holds the title for most albums sold by a female MC in one week with 422,000 when it debuted in 1998.
Elsewhere on the charts, Rihanna’s Loud is benefiting from Thanksgiving week sales in its second week with 140-160,000, with her labelmate Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic on par with those numbers. Despite delays and an early leak, Ne-Yo’s fourth LP Libra Scale could dance away with 120-140,000, putting it in the top 10. These figures could see a boost due to the busy Black Friday shopping weekend. Read the rest of this entry »
Nelly lashes out at Universal Motown
Nov 29th
With the lead single “Just A Dream” off the new album 5.0 shifting just over two million (making that a double platinum hit), it still doesn’t explain why Nelly’s album only shifted 63,000 in it’s opening week. The rapper/singer lashed out at label Universal Motown.
And I mean what classier way to say it to your label than your twitter! (of course!) Nelly said “ A record deal is a 50/50 partnership! As a artist its your job to provide the record company with music that they (record company) can sell! Thing about the partnership is thati n the public eye the responsibility is not 50/50! The artist is always the 1who catches 90% of the blame. When a artist doesn’t deliver sufficient material they(artist) gets its budget cut for next album or worse dropped from the label!” (ouch!) I mean without a doubt it’s pretty true and Nelly has got a valid point.
“So not only is the label ur partner but also disciplinarian and 90% of the time the one who decides if the partnership continues! No doubt wen a artist doesn’t deliver a song that does crack top of the charts or even top10 the label is quick to say artist didn’t deliver. So intern the artist must bare the brunt of that failure and take responsibility and consequences as handed out by his or her label!!” At this point I would assume those following him on twitter are now wondering if Nelly is having a break down! I think Nelly has all the right to be angry, I mean there was no “good” follow up single after “Just A Dream” – read the rest of his lash out against the record label Read the rest of this entry »
Nicki Minaj tells us her five year plan…
Nov 29th
With all eyes on Nicki Minaj who just released her debut album Pink Friday earlier last week, but she already has big plans for the future. The Young Money raptress told us that her five-year plan includes a film career, a perfume line, a clothingline, and records that feature her singing as much as rapping.
Minaj has already explored the latter with her debut, singing on many of the album cuts. “There’s this fear of not being perfect,” she tells the magazine. “There’s some songs I just won’t write because I’m afraid of it not meeting my expectation of what I know that song could be. I don’t compete with other people, I compete with myself.” The Harajuku Barbie, who recently launched a limited edition M·A·C lipstick, previously revealed her aspirations to win an Oscar. “We’re getting scripts,” she told DJ Drama. “We’re reading it, but we’re not saying nothing [yet].”
One thing is for sure, the head Barb has come a long way since moving from Trinidad at the age of five. “When I first came to America, I would go in my room and kneel down at the foot of my bed and pray that God would make me rich so that I could take care of my mother,” she says. “Because I always felt like if I took care of my mother, my mother wouldn’t have to stay with my father, and he was the one, at that time, that was bringing us pain. We didn’t want him around at all, and so I always felt like being rich would cure everything, and that was always what drove me.” Read the rest of this entry »
Mariah Carey does a Christmas and Nicki Minaj special
Nov 23rd
Yes that’s right, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And thanks to Mariah Carey she’s spreading the holiday cheer during the taping of her ABC special, “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You,” earlier this month at The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. – I know it’s a little early but come on now, this is Mariah!
Mariah’s lambs were treated to unforgettable renditions of yuletide classics and original tunes from her two holiday albums, including her latest hit “Oh Santa!” The pregnant songstress also surprised some fans by helping make their holiday wishes come true. Mariah also spoke about the up and coming rap queen Nicki Minaj who she recorded a single with off the “failed” album “Angels Advocate“.
Pop fans were introduced to Nicki Minaj when she appeared on the remix to Mariah Carey’s “Up Out My Face.” Nicki shares the encouraging words the pop diva told her that gave her a boost of confidence (of course! Nicki is now best friends with everyone apart from Lil Kim!). “I was shaking,” she recalls after meeting the Grammy-winning songbird. “After we shot the video, she gave me a little pep talk that was really sweet and sentimental. She was like, ‘You’re going to make it. You’re going to be really big!’” Read the rest of this entry »
