Nov 24th
Now that J. Cole has given fans the appetizer with his latest mixtape Friday Night Lights, he’s focusing his attention on the main course. The “Who Dat” rapper shares a few more details about his highly-anticipated debut.
“The album could be done. If I needed to put it out next week, I would be able to,” the Roc Nation signee tells us. “My expectations were already super high and I think the fans’ were too, but now that the mixtape is out and the response is what it is, I kinda want to go back in and do a few more songs that are that much better, just to boost the level of the album.”
He is now eyeing a spring drop date for the project. “I think we’re looking at a March release date or something around there with the single coming in a couple weeks.”
While he wouldn’t reveal the song’s title, he did hint at a guest appearance. “As of right now, it has a feature,” he says of the undisclosed tune, adding, “I think it’s what a lot people been waiting on.” And despite Cole World being thrown around, he has not announced an official title. “I never announced that as the name of the album, but it’s a sick title. I did think about that as a possibility, but as of right now, that’s not the title,” Read the rest of this entry »
Usher tells us how it feels to be a single dad
Sep 9th
Usher may be one of the biggest stars in the world, but he doesn’t want his kids following in his footsteps. The 31-year-old, who has two sons, says that his children love his music to the point that they “harass” him to play their favorite songs, but he wishes that they would grow up to have a normal life.
“I’d really rather he become a lawyer or accountant, but he may be talented,” Usher told us of his two-year-old, Usher Raymond V. “He’ll just find his way, and I’ll be supportive.” The “OMG” singer also shared that Usher V and one-year-old Naviyd are his saving grace when the trials and tribulations of fame can be too much for him.
“Life can weigh you down, but children pump blood back into your heart. Their innocence gives you a reason to be open-minded, and they reignite your love for life,” he said. “My life isn’t the typical one, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be a traditional father, in my own way. My tradition is loving, being available for my kids. I didn’t have that from my father, so having it will give them greater potential.”
And while his kids keep his spirits high, he isn’t thinking about putting himself back on the dating market following his divorce from Tameka Foster. “I’m very single,” he revealed. “But I’m in no rush. I want to make sure that I really know what I’m getting into. If someone is out there, I’ll find her and we’ll make it in time.” Read the rest of this entry »
Jennifer Lopez “rejected” from Idol judging panel
Aug 13th
Jennifer Lopez had been lined up to fill one of the empty seats on the ‘American Idol’ judging panel but those plans have been scrapped. It is being reported that former force on the music charts had too many “out of hand” demands and the Fox network simply “had enough”. This news comes on the heels of rumours that a diva with actual vocal talent, Mariah Carey, has her eye on one of the judging spots.
Clearly Lopez didn’t get the memo that her career is only two drips away from being flushed down the toilet. With her music failing to make a dent on the charts and a movie career that has become more stagnant than ever, Lopez needs capitalise on every available avenue if she wishes to remain relevant. In other words, stop acting like a diva and just be happy that you’re even invited to watch the show. I’m just so glad something finally hit Jennifer Lopez in the face!
I mean, it’s one thing to be dropped by your label, then to be stripped from all your endorsement deals and now to be rejected as a judge from a vanishing talent contest! – Girl! Who you fooling? It’s clear that Jennifer Lopez‘s efforts are much needed in her acting career. I mean we all love some “Jenny from the black”, but Jenny packed her bags and moved out along time ago.
Jennifer Lopez is currently working on a new project with new label Island Def Jam (do not ask me why, they took her on! – epic fail right there, but then L.A.Reid is on his way out so who cares! right?) which is set for release later this year.
But just a thought, why is Jennifer Lopez not grabbing the attention of all her fans? – Where did all her fans go in the past 4 years? I mean when she released her new records, there wasn’t much love from her fans…Jennifer Lopez! no fans! “Louboutins” was an okay track and when the track failed with Jennifer Lopez it was handed to Brandy which climbed to mid 50s in the chart? – Just trying to figure out how J-Lo has managed to stir her career right to the ground…
MTV loses digital videos from Universal
Aug 6th
MTV, once the king of music videos, has failed to reach an agreement with music portal Vevo, for the rights to Universal Music Group’s Web music videos. Negotiations between MTV and Vevo over videos from UMG, home of such artists as U2, Amy Winehouse, Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga, broke down Thursday, according to Vevo. What this means is that most of MTV’s Internet properties will lose access to UMG’s videos.
That may not be all. Vevo is the online music-video portal that launched in December and is supported by three of the top four labels, UMG, Sony Music Entertainment, and EMI Music. So, MTV conceivably may have problems signing deals with the other two labels. ”MTVN has been unwilling to negotiate a fair syndication deal with Vevo to carry our artists’ videos and consequently our videos will not be shown on their online properties,” a UMG spokesman said. MTV would only say that it’s disappointed a deal couldn’t be reached.
“During our recent discussions with Vevo (pictured on the left is the grand launch of the site and Mariah Carey opening the evening), we were unable to reach a fair and equitable agreement for rights to stream UMG artists’ music video,” MTV said in a statement. “As a result, UMG has elected to pull their music videos from our Web sites. We are disappointed by this move and sincerely hope that UMG will work with us toward a fair resolution.”
MTV has declined to enter into UMG’s standard agreement and one that has been signed by other companies, such as Google’s YouTube. Disagreements between the large labels and MTV are nothing new. MTV’s rise to power and profits, beginning in 1981, by broadcasting nothing but music videos is a sore spot for big music. The large record companies have always said they never received a fair share for their videos. MTV argued that the labels got plenty. MTV says over the years it has paid the record industry billions. More recently, YouTube emerged and music videos became the most popular segment on the site. Now, record company execs say that since music videos are huge traffic drivers, they want to be the ones who pocket the ad revenues the videos generate.
