Trey Songz took part in a detailed discussion with The MoMo Show. During the interview the singer revealed why most of his newer material is based on sex rather than the artistic depth of his 1st 2 albums. Songz’s new album,”Passion, Pain & Pleasure“, hits stores on September 14th. Check out what he had to say below:
“The public likes generic more than they like to admit, so that’s what I gave them — I gave them sexual singles and they ate it up,” Songz says about the string of blatantly sexed-up hits from “Ready“. “I gave them two whole albums before this one — on one I talked about a mother’s love for her son and a father not being there, and on the other I made a song about safe sex. They were well accepted but not as much as the records on “Ready“. The singles were purposely very sexual to capture people’s attention.”. Trey Songz didn’t find it compromising to peddle sex to become a bigger star. In fact, he feels “Ready” wasn’t any more sexual than his previous albums.
“People say this album was highly sexual, but the first two albums were just as sexual,” he says. “If you listen to the ‘Ready’ album, there’s ”Love Lost”, ”Black Roses”, ”Yo Side of the Bed” – all songs that had nothing to do with sex, but were overlooked because they weren’t the first few singles.”
“I knew “I Invented Sex” was career-defining. After that leaked, the rough mix started playing on radio,” Songz says. “I prepared for “Say Aah“ to be a big record — I knew it would be huge. So when it came to shooting the video for “I Invented Sex” I split the budget for “Say Aah“. I think those steps were imperative to the success of this album.”
So in other words Songz decided to do anything it took to get a hit? While it is understandable that he wanted to take his music in a different direction and enjoy higher levels of success with “Ready“, he has to yet to explain why he has chosen to do the same with “Passion, Pain & Pleasure“. It seems that Songz either enjoys objectifying the bodies of women in his songs or he is afraid to return to the meager position in the industry that he once occupied as an artist of actual integrity. Is Angela Simmons rekindling her romance with ex-boyfriend Bow Wow? The “Run’s House” star and Cash Money rapper were seated together in the front row at the Trina Turk 2011 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami on Thursday (July 15). Rev Run’s daughter had been dating fellow reality TV star Robert Kardashian, but there are rumors that the two have gone their separate ways.
I mean, is this a desperate Public attention scandal or is it (dare I say) love? One source stated that “And just weeks after she ditched Robert Kardashian! Don’t you think they look adorable together”, Bow Wow, who said recently is struggling to land covers of magazines may have found the answer to his poor PR? – Well I wouldn’t be surprised if her now announces a new album! – Come on now, anything is possible.
I’m sure Angela Simmons is having a briefing right now from not only her management but her mother also, on how to handle this one! The last thing that she would want is a break-up with Bow Wow that could damage her brand and overall reputation, coming out of a relationship so quickly with Robert Kardashian, Hollywood are starting to talk about how innocent and modest is Miss Simmons?

After over a decade, Alicia Keys has ended her business relationship with longtime manager Jeff Robinson. Keys and Robinson released a joint statement on Friday (July 16) announcing their split. “Jeff Robinson, CEO of MBK Entertainment Inc., and 12-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys have decided to change the structure of their business relationship,” read the statement. “Robinson and Keys will continue to collaborate and produce future albums together through MBK/J Records while Alicia will now oversee all aspects of her own personal career.”
The decision was “mutually agreed upon and amicable.” Moving forward, Keys’ own company AK Worldwide will oversee ventures including touring and licensing to film, television, and new business development. “This decision will allow Alicia more control over all aspects of her career from singing and songwriting, to leading many business ventures and social causes,” continued the statement.
Robinson had been Keys trusted friend and manager since she was 14 years old. He is credited as executive producer on her last four studio albums. “I have known Alicia since she was 14. She has matured as an artist, going from a ‘wide-eyed and curious-about-the-world girl’ to a ‘wide-eyed and curious-about-the-universe woman,” Robinson told us magazine in 2007. “She continues to absorb knowledge like a sponge and I feel like a proud father watching his daughter grow into a take-charge woman.” Robinson’s company MBK Entertainment Inc. will focus on developing other acts including LeToya Luckett, Jermaine Paul, and Elle Varner. “Single Ladies” sister Solange Knowles (aka Beyonce‘s sister) finally lifted the lid on the recording process for her 3rd studio album (set for an October release), describing its sound as “80s R&B meets new wave dance-rock”. With little tension between the siblings could this be the spark that sets it all off?
Needless to say, Solange Knowles has failed to garnish any sort of award or praise for her music, after she is being constantly compare to on of the greatest entertainers of our time, Beyonce. Despite her constant effort to be less associated with her sister, it seems that the press have nothing else but that to ask of Solange Knowles.
She is bound to get it, after all Solange Knowles is one of the very few social networking active of the celebrities that are online. Solange Knowles, after leaving Columbia Records hard started to record her new album, she had to say about the Beyonce fans who think she’s trying draw attention to herself through her sister “I could really care less what a B fan, who fits a certain profile and only shops at a certain place and only goes to the spots that blogs tell her to go to, thinks. Those people have never driven me. I wouldn’t take back any of the things I did because I gained the people who I needed to have on my side. The people who don’t understand that don’t have the integrity that I want anyway. I felt really good that my songs were at the Best Of The Year lists. I get my love. It may not be what everyone else’s perception is, but I definitely get respect and I feel really good about that.”
(Hmm) – I mean, why all of a sudden has Solange Knowles decided to come into the public eye? Has she got her eyes set on a place for the Destiny Child reunion? I mean it all could happen very easily. As much as Solange Knowles‘ talent goes it managed to ship a few units, but her confidence for the new album definitely shows; she told us “Well, this new album is my baby. I would love for us to do a part two for this interview because there were so many elements and things that happened during the recording process. I’m talking physically, emotionally, and mentally…There was definitely a little bit of a breakdown involved. I literally gave up my sanity for a while to do this record. To the point to where I started doing it in Santa Barbara and I had to relocate to L.A. because I was losing it. We literally were waking up in the morning and just making music all day and all night. We left the house maybe three times! It just started to wear on me in so many different ways. I started having these crazy panic attacks.”
Of course, because everyone knows that “crazy panic attacks” are the end of your life as it is…who is Solange Knowles really trying to fool? I suppose she’s just going to have to admit it to herself one-day whether it be in LA or Santa Barbara. I smelly another lame R&B album…yawn! (more…)
Chris Brown’s rumored girlfriend Jasmine Sanders celebrated her 20th birthday Tuesday night (Jun 22) and the couple hung out with Breezy’s BFF Teyana Taylor, who tweeted these photos of them in the car on the ride over to Playhouse nightclub in Los Angeles.
Teyana also mentioned on Twitter that she and Chris baked a cake for Jasmine before heading out to the club. (Is this where we say “aww?” LOL!). Good for you Chris Brown! Good for you! I know I keep saying this and don’t get me wrong, what he did was wrong, and that is now in the past; I think we all need to get over it! – It’s time the he and us both moved on! With RiRi every five minutes flaunting her stuff with hubby Matt Kemp.
I’m not surprised that Chris Brown wanted this to be all a secret! After being rejected by Visa offices for leaving for his tour i’m sure now that he’s learnt that any public activity needs to remain private. With ever Rihanna ass licker media hype will just attack him like vultures! In addition, Chris Brown has been scheduled back into the studio to work on another album which sources told us “he’s having a break now, but we need to work on some new material which is more current.”.
So finally Chris Brown takes my advice and lays low and start work on a new project with a fresh mind! To be fair there is nothing else he can do given all the circumstances. Chris Brown is set to honour Michael Jackson at this year’s BET awards.

Let me introduce you to one of the hottest tracks for this summer! Big Boi (other half of rapping duo OutKast) has made his début under the Def Jam label. “Shutterbugg” although a huge move from the pop-rap of OutKast, Big Boi does well in the new single showing originality in the music video and the single itself. “Shutterbugg” will be the lead single off the album “Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty” (yes, that was a mouthful). Interestingly the new album (do I really need to repeat it!?…) “Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty” will be distributed through Def Jam and Purple Ribbon (the label which is owned by OutKast) – could this mean that OutKast are not totally finished!
In regards to the music Big Boi – this has to be given five stars! Even more so this music video has kinda got my excited about the album; confirmation came today that Big Boi‘s album will include work and collaborations from T.I., Jamie Foxx, Gucci Mane, B.o.B, Andre 3000 and Mary J Blige. “Shutterbugg” is currently climbing up both the billboard hot 100 and R&B charts. “Shutterbugg” is also expected to be released officially in the UK in the coming week. T.I. shreds apart his new track “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)” Much like his buzz single “I’m Back,” the DJ Toomp and Smash Factory production features an edgier rock sound that will prevail on T.I‘s forthcoming album ”King Uncaged” (set to drop on August 17th 2010). Judging from its title, the song will also be included on the soundtrack to his action-packed film Takers.
It’s pretty much set in stone that T.I is stepping away from his commercial rap hits of 2008 but know going back to his routes of pure hardcore rap. With T.I being one of few of his kind it’s important for him not to forget his rap fans after the success of tunes such as “Live Your Life” and “Whatever You Like“. According to Grand Hustle will be shooting this video will be a mix of footage from his film and other footage which is currently being shot across many locations in the states.
T.I cleverly avoiding a album battle with Drake; he said that there are still many things that need to be done with the album. With yet no official track list or artwork I for one would not be surprised if this album gets delayed by Warner Bros. With that aside this track is one that may not make it to airplay on mainstream stations but definitely will hang around for the summer. In other news T.I reportedly said he had to do 1500 hours behind bars; which could be the drive behind this album and thus resulting into a more edgier sound. Yes, Rihanna has taken the stage for her “Last Girl On Earth Tour”, whilst on the Europe leg of the tour – due to the ash cloud caused by Iceland Rihanna had to cancel two shows due to travel difficulties, since then and before so Rihanna fans have been running to their blogs saying how unimpressed they where with the set list, and the entire concert. Apparently Rihanna‘s only interaction with the audience is a pre-recorded audio clip that goes “hello (city name), are you having a good time!? i’m having a blast”. This is a bit disappointing for Rihanna, I would of expected a lot more from her!
In addition Rihanna‘s costumes seems to be a very Lady Gaga-like, all in all exposing her desire to be an artist who she isn’t. In fairness Rihanna has changed so much as an artist herself no wonder she is finding it hard to make the concert flow, saying that reports from a Rihanna fan page had complaints that Rihanna didn’t not sing at all during her performance of ”Rude Boy”, “Shut Up and Drive” and “We Ride” where she left that to backing track and backing vocals (ouch!). Oh Ri-Ri with another album readying for August and pushing two new singles (“Te Amo” and “Rockstat 101″), your life is just the exact metaphor of “whatever goes up, must come down”. Drake who has recently proposed to Nicki Minaj, and still readying his new album set for a late June release is looking to get back to where he started – acting. If you didn’t know, Drake was an actor on the Nickelodeon show Degrassi, way before he headed into the booth to become what he is now, a great lyricist.
Although it’s hard to believe that Drake began his hufe Hip-Hop career working for children’s television network Nickelodeon, but then Drake told us about details on his new album and other acting projects “The album comes out on June 15th. It was really just about me getting into the right creative head space and delivering a first album that people could all appreciate. So, I think I got it now. Yeah, June 15th, I’m excited.”
Drake added ”Television is sort of an exhausting, repetitive format to be in but I’m definitely, like after this album and I have another project I have in mind that I want to do but after that I’ll probably get back into some movies, yeah. I’m excited to do movies again. I like being on set.”
Drake being in a dual contract with Motown and Cash Money records I’d find to see where Drake will fit in his album promotional tour with the acting projects, I’m sure some arrangement will be made – but it will definitely interesting to see how Drake‘s fans react to this. It would also be interesting to see Drake on the silver screen, and with Drake writing his music, he could be close to directing his own film. So this is an interesting collaboration for up and rising UK grime and urban superstar Chipmunk , who now after the success of his début (commercial) album “I Am Chipmunk” he’s already adding the finishing touches for his next LP set for release in the UK for summer 2010! Featuring to the track and co-wrote it is Esmee Denters who’s recent success in the UK was at a low; her album “Outta Here” peaked at #48!
From what I can see it’s two clever moves by both artists! Chipmunk needs a huge break in the US thus using Esmee to do so, and Esmee Denters needs a huge (not just a top 10 single this time!) break in the UK thus using Chipmunk to do so. In all fairness thus song isn’t that bad, however i’m not seeing this as a number one! With a lot of European Techno Pop in the charts at the moment it’s going to be hard for both of them to compete with that. Having said that, the late release of the single will not help the circulation of the single (people will get bored!).
May I add, the change that Esmee Denters has gone under – she’s gone for a more Nelly Furtado look and sound (is that a good thing!?) and the whole waving of the hair every new shot on screen cannot be good! Although Chipmunk seems to be going for a different style also – i’ll let you guys check it out! I think it’s a song that will stick around (until spring is over!), and it’s not a bad effort from both of them. I’d never think these two would get together and make a tune…I wonder who’s idea that was!?
