Rihanna’s new album expected to match MJ’s “Thriller”

Like I keep saying; some people love to run away with their imaginations and come out with craziness like this. So before Rihanna goes on to insult Michael Jackson let me just clear things up…it will never happen!

Island Def Jam A&R sources told us “Rihanna is coming along incredibly. I’m trying to push her to where every song will be a hit from 1 to 12. I’m talking about NO album fillers. Our bar for this album is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. We got smashes from Stargate, Ester Dean, Mel & Mus and Rock City. We’re definitely going in with Ne-YoThe-Dream and other writers and producers that have always been a part of her creative process since day one. She’s great to work with and very hands on with every song that’s being written and produced. She has visual concepts for just about every song. It’s already giving me the feel of a timeless album, and right now is her time” (hold on let me just compose myself…) What!? You know sometimes I do wonder what those people at Def Jam are smoking!?

This is no way that Rihanna is even ready (let alone have the ability) to push for an album matching something like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, legacy wise Rihanna is still miles away of becoming and artist like with the ability to create an album with that sort of legacy and success behind it. With “Rated R” only having 4 lead single for Rihanna; (a decline from the 7 from “Good Girl Gone Bad”); setting the bar too high could damage her career and confidence.

And (just bring out the facts here), “Good Girl Gone Bad” which shiped 1.6 million units of the album however in contract Rihanna‘s latest effort “Rated R” only managed to ship 1.1 million units of the album! SO! with all this data I can conclude with the trend rate “RiRi” is going for; this new big LP won’t even be certified platinum; not to mention Rihanna has failed to sell-out any of her European shows and now she’s gone and died her hair red in effort to support the “R” in “Rated R”. You know Rihanna; I used to like you…I really did, but every time I hear about you or see about the more i’m pushing myself to take your music off my iPod and to endorsing your albums!  - but hey, only time will tell! For the Lovers!?

Whitney-Houston-500x416After this Diva’s “I Look To You” worldwide success (yet failing to sell Gold!?), Whitney is ready to throw out another track from the album (a bit late now though with all the hype about her return almost vanished), the Diva insists that this will be a hit!

After listening to the entire track about 100 times – it’s clear that Whitney is out of her comfort zone! R&B only mixes well if you really know what your doing and with the track being co-produced by Eric Hudson and originally written for Ne-yo it seems a little life less.

At times it’s pretty clear that Whitney is trying to imitate Mary J Blidge’s style of singing R&B ballads and sometimes i think she should stick to singing her classics (maybe a greatest hits LP!?)- but i’ll let you folks decide that! – remember who told you! (more…)

Mariah Teams Up With Ne-Yo

mariahcarey_newMariah Carey announced that she will be releasing two “LPs” (albums for you and me), for the remix edition for her new album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel”. Alongside hitting her “Angels Cry” tour – she’s still trying to save that long lasting career with now only one, but two remix albums! (joy!).

Carey told us that not only will there be some hot remixes, but tracks that never made it on the original album, will also be on there too (like her Timbaland and Drake collaboration). Ne-Yo is set to be the first (label friend), to work on the expected 20 track albums (times two!). I really hope Def Jam makes it work, last time I saw Mariah and Clive Davis getting along was at last week’s Vevo awards.

Now we all wouldn’t want Mimi to be working under J Records…with Whitney Houston!? I think we need to start from scratch! Don’t worry, we’ll all forget, just like the album Glitter!

The Album Showdown Has Begun

Rated R

2700469230_d78f856517Rihanna is set to return to the R&B and Hip-Hop scene this November with her forth studio album “Rated R” (taken by Queens of the stone age) planned to be released on November 23. The album has been in production since the “indecent” between ex-boyfriend/woman beater Chris Brown and Rihanna. Jay Z (who discovered Rihanna’s R&B talents back in Barbados when Umbrella superstar was used to singing Dancehall and Reggae tracks) said she was willing to work on the album no matter what! “Rihanna is a roller. She goes in hard. She was ready to come back to work from the off.” co-producers and best friend Ne-Yo commented on the re-brand Rihanna has been put through, “It’s definitely more edgy than the way we’re used to seeing Rihanna. Let’s call it ‘liberated.”

The album title was officially released on the 20th October, and Rihanna fans went crazy! and it seems like this album is jammed packed with R&B and Hip Hop collaborations (a lot different from previous “Good Girl Gone Bad”), Rihanna worked with many other artists during the production of “Rate R” including Akon, Carl Sturken, Evan Rogers, Chase & Status, Drake, Ian Brown, Jim Beanz, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, No I.D., Pharrell Williams, Rock City, Ryan Tedder, Sean Garrett, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Stargate, The Y’s, Tricky Stewart,The Dream and Tyson Ritter (WOW). So from the sound of her line up, this album is predicted to be a hot one! Rumours are that Rated R is going to be a 2 CD set with an amazing 20 tracks!

Rihanna has been criticized for the change of theme and style she has gone through, clearly the days of Unfaithful, We Ride, Pon Da Replay and Umbrella are truly over and with mentor Jay Z pushing Rihanna towards the streets of New Urban Hip Hop music she no longer displays the vocal talents she has shown previously. Still Rihanna is being brave not going for the Lady GaGa movement that is dominating the music scene, and sticking with her own was a brave choice – “Rated R” will take part of the (what seems to be coming a lot more popular in music these days) “Come back album show down” with Pretty Ricky, Leona Lewis, Johnta Austin, R Kelly, Jay Sean, Joe, Jagged Edge and Danity Kane (originally started off by all time legends Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Ginuwine and The Dream) set to commence this November!

So with the Billboard Hot 100 charts preparing to heat up! So is Rihanna. She was spotted in Berlin this October, wearing a nude suit with a white fur jacket for her album cover shoot. The début single of “Rated R” (the strangely titled) “Russian Roulette” (co-written by Ne-Yo), has hit stores and is receiving a mixed reception…well what does MoMo think? – i’m not too sure, we’ll have to give it some time. No official track list or album cover has been released.
