“You know I’m original, not your everyday typical”

After finally ditching Preeya Kalidas to “Shimmy” by herself the doors have been left wide open for Mumzy Stranger. East London singer and rapper is finally ready to release some new work since the early projects of his career from almost a year ago. Despite just coming off a record which almost fell into the minus off the charts (Preeya KalidasShimmy“), there is already hype circulating industry floors building up the heat of his next single release titled “Fly With Me“.

Impossible to box in a specific genre, “Fly With Me“ draws influences from dance music combined with smooth R&B vocals and a distinct dancehall flavour – Co-written and co-produced with renowned producer and long time mentor, Rishi Rich, Mumzy Stranger has been making a name for himself on the urban and Asian underground scene over the last few years. Mumzy started out on East London’s grime scene battling with other MCs before discovering the Asian club scene when he started University. Combing the two genres with his love of dancehall music, Mumzy Stranger started becoming one of the key figures on the Asian music scene.

Already playing to crowds of 60,000 people (something which some “main-stream” artists fail to do – no names, but just though I’d drop Rihanna in this one!) Mumzy Stranger will be finishing his debut album which will be released in 2011. As you can expect from an artist who mixes sounds and styles, he is determined not to be pigeonholed. He told us “I’m not an Asian doing R&B music.  I’m a soulful, R&B, bashment artist who happens to be Asian.  I don’t need to be put under any category.” – There are currently several versions of  ”Fly With Me” circulating, however a mastered is yet to be released! Shimmy Shimmy yah now!

Yes it’s the soap-star to pop-star Preeya Kalidas‘ (also know as Amira form EastEnders and other cameos), début single “Shimmy” has done better with the public reaction than what critics expected when the single was first relieved.  Although the single says very little (only two verses to be exact and even one of those is taken by up and coming star Mumzy Stranger) the song is the cry for help of the techo-pop-euro rubbish that is being circulated, answered!  Yes it’s different, but with the amazing video full of colour and edginess this is a strong single from the album which is as yet untitled!

Preeya Kalidas also performed live on the national lottery with Mumzy Stranger in front of a live television audience of millions. With the single aside, industry cheeses are looking closely at the project set to be the largest British Asian mainstream release since Jay Sean (who was under the same label with Mumzy Stranger). Needless to say, “Shimmy” will do well and Shimmying partner Mumzy Stranger has also got huge début plans set out for the last quarter of 2010. Preeya Kalidas and Mumzy Stranger are currently on their sell-out UK tour performing “Shimmy” which is out now! Read the rest of this entry »

Preeya “Shimmy” ft. Mumzy Stranger

One of the most anticipated débuts acts of 2010 finally set her foot down! Yes EastEnder’s star’s Preeya Kalidas premièred her début single “Shimmy“. Preeya Kalidas who is signed with UMG’s Mercury Records told us that “It’s been years since a soap actress has managed to make that transition into the pop charts. But I’ve worked hard. I think people will be surprised with the album. I’m getting great feedback.”. From samples that have been surfacing, Preeya Kalidas in many ways has begun to resemble a young Beyonce; and with strong vocals through out the track following UK peers such as Jade Ewen and Pixie Lott – either way Preeya Kalidas is getting a lot of people excited!

The video flows well alongside the tune (kinda reminds me of Nelly Furtado‘s “Maneater” video).Preeya Kalidas has defiantly silenced many critics who doubted the success of her Pop career; with such a strong lead single for the album. Note how Preeya Kalidas has distance her own image and style of “Pop” away from the likes of Cheryl Cole and has gone for a more edgier look (kinda Pussycat Doll stlye but not all the way!). Back to the single “Shimmy” which features one of the UK’s up and coming acts “Mumzy Stranger” who has been labelled as “the UK’s answer to Sean Paul“; for some people it may take it’s time to grow but this is definitely going to be a hit! this is…Mumzy Stranger

East London boy Mumzy Stranger is the latest UK pop-urban sensation to surface the music scene. Already being named as the UK’s answer to Sean Paul; it’s clear the standards have been set high and with yet an official début album to release , it’s only going to increase the anticipation for Mumzy Stranger début LP.

Unlike many UK acts who try stick to their genre and their genre only; already with the first few lines of singles released and we are told there is a lot more and better to come. We can all tell Mumzy Stranger is no stranger to being diverse. In many ways Mumzy reminds me of a male version of Pixie Lott with a more urban edged twist on him. A prime example of how a young boy who set a up a studio in his room and after countless commitment has finally made it to where he wants to be; further more another prime example of how UK acts getting the recognition they deserve!

Mumzy Stranger was lucky given this opportunity by mentor and producer Rishi Rich who’s worked with the likes of Britney Spears, Madonna, Craig David and Jay Sean. And is also expected to collaborate and work with EastEnder’s star Preeya Kalidas (who is also working on her own solo project with UMG’s Mercury Records).

Expect big things from Mumzy Stranger for 2010; this is one act that MoMo knows that will believe over this summer! Keep it locked for more info! Read the rest of this entry »
