Nicki Minaj “Your Love”
Jul 21st
That’s right, the much awaited video to Nicki Minaj‘s single “Your Love” has dropped! Although “Your Love” was never intended to be released by the Young Money Group, however leaks on Youtube lead Nicki Minaj to garner her first solo #1 on the Billboard Rap 100 which made her the first solo female rapper to top the Rap Chart in 8 years!.
The video works well with the track, yet (dare I say it!) this is another recession friendly video – hey maybe that all the rage in the US at the moment! While seemingly low budget, the clip captured the essence of the song well without going the typical route that most Hip-Hop acts would have taken – clubs, stripper poles and money raining from the sky (no names need to be mentioned). Nicki Minaj looks remarkably “health” (and by that, maybe the budget was spend on making her face so god dam flawless!) in the video, and yes, she’s got a new set of weave!
“Your Love” has already climbed to #18 on the US Billboard hot 100, it’s release is expected in Europe this weekend titled “Your Love The EP”. Unlike “Massive Attack“, it’s nice to see Nicki Minaj do something toned down, however for many critics this video has confused them about what to expect from Nicki Minaj‘s album which is due to drop this November. Either way the track will do well, and at times the video does remind me of Beyonce’s “Check On It” – maybe they used the same silk sheets? Remember The MoMo Show is set to interview Nicki Minaj this August – so keep it locked for chances to win a meet and great with the first lady of Young Money! Read the rest of this entry »
Kelly Rowland’s LP set to be more successful in Europe than Beyonce’s
Jul 17th
With “Commander” in heavy circulation and climbing it’s way on the charts, no wonder a lot of people have got their eyes back on Kelly Rowland who seems to be having most her success here in Europe. Without a doubt the lead single off the album “Commander” is a strong one, without a doubt new management under universal’s Motown has really allowed to find her niche in the market. I’m sure we can all say that we are all Beyonce‘d out!
But, why has Kelly Rowland become such a huge star in Europe? Many factors including her work with David Guetta, but interesting facts emerged form sources saying that UMG can ensure that the LP (when’s it’s released) will hit more than 500,00o units within 2 weeks for release – meaning it will certify Gold in the opening weeks. That’s more than any Beyonce; who has always followed a gradual build of record sales. However notice some of the odd similarities with Kelly Rowland‘s “Commander” and Beyonce‘s “Sweet Dreams” – hm, I wonder what this is going to lead to?
I mean, it clear that Motown didn’t spend fortunes on “Commander” – and indeed classes as a recession friendly one! Kelly Rowland‘s next single scheduled for release is titled “Grown Woman” and click over to check out the new promotional pictures and the potential album cover! Read the rest of this entry »
Drake “Find Your Love”
May 25th
The much awaited second single from Drake‘s forthcoming début album “Thank Me Later” which is set to drop June 15th 2010! I’ve always been a fan of Drake‘s work and his second single off the album “Find Your Love” is an example of how diverse Drake is. This video and track is miles away from the style and structure of his first single “Over” off the LP. The video was shot in Kingston, Jamaica and the director of the video Anthony Mandler (who recently worked with Rihanna‘s “Te Amo”) said “Part of the objective of making this video was to do that same twist again, to give you something unexpected, not only tonality with the song but with the video thematically. It’s kind of like the anti-love love story. It’s really about crossing lines, what was said in the first scene. It’s about really understanding what’s right and what’s wrong and it’s really easy to lose that when you’re the center of attention. He did it fearlessly, he did it without any sign of hesitation. He wanted to do something that went further with the song, that took the essence of the song but communicated it with imagery that made people think, rather than go up the middle and make an obvious R&B video.”.
Drake clearly shows his dedication to his project and the anticipation is just building up to the release date of “Thank Me Later“; with Drake currently on a promotional tour around the US and then Europe Motown Records seem to be making all the right moves for the project. However I’m slightly disappointed with the album cover to “Thank Me Later“, which seems a bit rushed/cheap – u’m sure the content of the CD will make up for that. We will be following Drake on his promotional tour; so keep it locked for any further release of announcements for Drake‘s new album. “Thank Me Later” out 15th June 2010.
Drake’s album gets pushed back again!
Apr 7th
With his new song, ‘Over’, climbing the charts and his fans begging for the release of the music video for the track, Drake has decided to add even more suspense to the mix. The rapper’s debut album, ‘Thank Me Later’, has been delayed from it’s original release date of May 25th to June 15th. Drake embarked on the Away From Home Tour last evening at Slippery Rock University and is expected to perform material from the album at some of the shows including a track entitled ‘Fireworks’ is what a source tells us.
With his release of a quick mixtape of tracks including “Best I Ever Had” – Drake has been working on this album for along time, and after his quite and quick engagement to lover Nicki Minaj – it’s seems a bit too domino effect like! With so far, very few confirmed singles on the track I’m starting to wonder if he’s even finished the album? Saying that the catalogue of features that Drake has stacked up will drag a lot of attention to the album. All in all listening to the samples that have been leaked this album is going to be one of very few traditional, hardcore yet old skool rap to be released in 2010, for my Hip-Hop fans you might be relieved to hear that this album doesn’t have a huge R&B influence nor presence. The album’s release is a joint venture between Cash Money and Universal Motown so maybe the push back could be a result of paper work (sources have told me some samples have been used in the tracks). I’m looking forward to this album! To listen to Drake‘s new singled “Over” – video coming soon! Read the rest of this entry »
