Island Def Jam showcase Jennifer Lopez’s new album…

Jennifer Lopez feels the Love? on the cover of her seventh album, due on Island Def Jam next year. Chosen as one of Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010,” J.Lo revealed the artwork during her interview last night, with the singer-actress decked out in diamonds and a fur coat while she looks off into the distance.

Additionally, the entertainer spoke about her upcoming judging gig on the 2011 season of “American Idol” and the hesitancy she felt in agreeing to it. “When they first offered it to me, I was like, no. And then I thought to myself, I’ll be at home with the babies. It just seemed like, wow, we can have a little bit of a normal life for like, seven months. That would be fun!” she exclaimed.

J.Lo also spoke on keeping it real when it comes to judging the contestants. “I can be honest, but I don’t like being mean. I don’t like when people are mean to me, so I don’t want to be mean to anybody,” Read the rest of this entry »

Jennifer Lopez “rejected” from Idol judging panel

Jennifer Lopez had been lined up to fill one of the empty seats on  the ‘American Idol’ judging panel but those plans have been scrapped. It is being reported that former force on the music charts had too many “out of hand” demands and the Fox network simply “had enough”. This news comes on the heels of rumours that a diva with actual vocal talent, Mariah Carey, has her eye on one of the judging spots.

Clearly Lopez didn’t get the memo that her career is only two drips away from being flushed down the toilet. With her music failing to make a dent on the charts and a movie career that has become more stagnant than ever, Lopez needs capitalise on every available avenue if she wishes to remain relevant. In other words, stop acting like a diva and just be happy that you’re even invited to watch the show. I’m just so glad something finally hit Jennifer Lopez in the face!

I mean, it’s one thing to be dropped by your label, then to be stripped from all your endorsement deals and now to be rejected as a judge from a vanishing talent contest! – Girl! Who you fooling? It’s clear that Jennifer Lopez‘s efforts are much needed in her acting career. I mean we all love some “Jenny from the black”, but Jenny packed her bags and moved out along time ago.

Jennifer Lopez is currently working on a new project with new label Island Def Jam (do not ask me why, they took her on! – epic fail right there, but then L.A.Reid is on his way out so who cares! right?) which is set for release later this year.

But just a thought, why is Jennifer Lopez not grabbing the attention of all her fans? – Where did all her fans go in the past 4 years? I mean when she released her new records, there wasn’t much love from her fans…Jennifer Lopez! no fans! “Louboutins” was an okay track and when the track failed with Jennifer Lopez it was handed to Brandy which climbed to mid 50s in the chart? – Just trying to figure out how J-Lo has managed to stir her career right to the ground…

Jennifer Lopez slammed with £20 million lawsuit!

Looks like J-Lo has really gone down to an all time low! A luxury hotel in northern Cyprus is suing Jennifer Lopez for $40 million after she cancelled a performance (is that how low Jennifer Lopez has gone to? Hotel performances?). J-Lo had agreed to appear at the Cratos Premium hotel and casino complex on 24 July, her 41st birthday and the anniversary of the island’s 1974 invasion by Turkey.

But the decision sparked outrage among fans who claimed her performance would help legitimise Turkey’s occupation of the region. After an online campaign by angry Greek Cypriot fans, including a Facebook page against the concert, the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing“ singer cancelled her performance – she sure knows how to wheel in the fans! A spokesperson explained the decision: “Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse. After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of management to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region.”

According to reports, the hotel owner has offered to halt the lawsuit if Jennifer changes her mind and performs as scheduled. Jennifer Lopez is currently working on her new album under new management with Island Def Jam – she is set to make her “comeback” (which she’s been trying to do for the last three years) later on this year. Rihanna, Ke$ha & Nicki Minaj on “Last Girl On Earth Tour”

Yes! The “Last Girl On Earth Tour” is going to be huge, this is one of Universal Music Group’s largest dual tours! With Rihanna taking main stage with the aid of Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha (who we haven’t heard from in a while) for an amazing 34 (and more being planned) shows. Only North American dates have been released but more world dates are being in the process of confirmation between the venues and the Universal Music Group.

With Rihanna‘s hot single “Rude Boy” still #1 on the billbaord hot 100, it makes sense for her to go on a global tour – however it’s clear that the introduction of not just one but two side acts suggests that Rihanna may have struggled to fill up arena’s during her tour! Also with her new album set for release this summer, she’s cutting this all a little too close – to push a new tour and a new album in a short time could lead to exhaustion (we all saw what happened to Lady Gaga – who if I may add, is still touring!). To be fair I think Rihanna was expecting a lot more from this project – after the huge success of her previous albums she did ship fewer on this LP (ouch!), but then we can shove some of the blame on good old L.A.Reid! – who is now focusing on Jennifer No-pez…I mean Lopez (eek!).

Either way this tour will be off the hook, I cannot wait until they release the set list – Are you ready for a long chain of shows of excessive auto-tune and leather panties - and not forgetting all backing dancers! Visit GigLocator.com for more info Read the rest of this entry »

Jennifer Lopez confirms movement to Def Jam and new Album

With Jennifer Lopez too old to go back to her dancing señorita days and not a skilled enough singer to retire to huge ballads, it’s understandable why Sony Music refused to update her career starting contract. After the epic fails to two singles that where meant to come from Jennifer Lopez‘s new album Epic and Sony Music boated her out of their as soon as you could say J-Lo!

However along came L A Reid (CEO of Island Def Jam) who is planning to bring back the Jennifer Lopez we all knew. Okay, so yes Island Def Jam are talented for making hit albums and great careers – famous for Mariah Carey‘s comeback with her chain of platinum LPs – however, you need the talent their for it to make a comeback – to put it straight people have just stopped listen to J-Lo and got a little bored of her music, it’s going to be hard for her seeing as Lady Gaga and Beyonce have planned new work to come out in the following months, let alone two album mates Rihanna and Mariah Carey also planning to release something for the summer! It’s going to be hard for L.A Reid to balance his time, but sources have confirmed that Mr Reid will even be producing the new album himself – hm Ms Lopez is getting a lot of attention. We lets just hope they use the money they made from Justin Bieber in to good use – they wouldn’t want to shelf another album right…? I hope this works out for J-Lo, but if all else fails she has still got her acting career which she would easily fall back into – and that’s without any effort!

In other news it was noted that Mariah Carey‘s website had removed the Island Def Jam copyright and banner would (suggesting that Mariah has terminated her contract with the Island Def Jam – for whatever reason!), this means that the Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez beef from 2005 is back on? L.A. to blame for failure of Rihanna/Mariah’s Albums

Antonio L.A. Reid has found himself in hot water after being accused of mishandling many of his label’s biggest projects during the last year. The Island Def Jam CEOhas reportedly been facing pressure from Lucian Grainge, the new Universal Music Group CEO, following his rampant spending and the incredibly low sales of Mariah Carey and Rihanna’s recent releases. Moreover, Reid’s recent efforts to signJennifer Lopez (who has not had a hit  record in years) have made him the target of serious media criticism, also the fact that every single penny under the Island Def Jam belt is being pushed on to Justin Bieber!

Reid was scheduled to answer questions  from fellow industry moguls regarding the issue at the Billboard 2010 Music & Money Symposium at the St. Regis last week but failed to make an appearance after one of his sons mysteriously fell ill. To date, Carey’s ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ has sold just short of 1.2 million units since it’s release in September (huge difference from “The Emancipation of MiMi which sold 6.4 million) while Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’ has only shipped 2.5 worldwide compared to the 2.6 million that her ‘Good Girl Gone Bade’ album sold in the US alone.

Note to Mariah and Rihanna (yes Ri-Ri i’m giving you advice!) grab your diamonds, your hair extensions  and run! Do not look behind,  get out out of there as soon as possible!

Jennifer Lopez gets dropped from Label!

A source confirmed today that following a string of commercial chart disasters, it is being reported today thatJennifer Lopez has been dropped by long-time label Epic Records. Ouch!

The singer/actress’ manager Benny Medina is said to have confirmed the news via email to Deadline.com, asserting that the split was an amicable one; one which occurred after the 40 year old mother of two had fulfilled her contractual obligations to the label upon the release of her last single ‘Louboutins’ – which tanked terribly on the charts upon its release early this year. Lopez’s team are said to have also shot down claims that her album ‘Love?’ was already completed, insisting that it has a been at an infant stage for a while yet (despite press listening sessions, and confirmed producer credits from the likes of Danja and D Mile).

However, such suggestion of Lopez’s departure being amicable is being rubbished by some close to the project. Instead, they reveal, it was Epic who sent Lopez packing after her series of chart flops. The label are said to ‘no longer know who Lopez’s audience are any more’. Worse still, Lopez’s forthcoming LP is said to have indeed been completed and ready for release in April. Lopez is said to be in talks with LA Reid for a move to Def Jam. Dam! LA Reid loves signing drop outs!? (J-Lo new album may be shelved!).

J-Lo a J-NO!

JLoLatin superstar jenny from the block, announced her stage name to change from J-Lo to Lola (yes, I’m thinking the same thing!), is this a desperate attempt to save her pop career?

The Neptunes produced track featuring Pitball “Fresh out the oven”, in some cases is fresh out the oven and straight in the bin! With J-lo come Lola attempting to sound like rising R&B superstar Keri Hilson, it is clear it is not her style!

Following the poor record sales of her recent album “Brave” released in 2007, newly named Lola took a break from the music industry in 2008, and after her over publicised “return” to the pop industry for 2009 Jenny failed successfully. Of course love don’t cost a thing when clothing and fragrance sales do add into Lola’s budget for new album “untilled” set to hit the music stores in 2010.

But, it hasn’t always been easy for Lola since the late 90s she’s been competing with acts such as Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Britney and Ashanti. I do miss the days of the LL Cool J and Ja Rule collaborations, and Ms Lopez sinning “ain’t it funny” over Craig Mack’s sample of “Flava in you ear”.

So as Lola (I’ll never get used to Lola!) say “don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got…I’m still, I’m still jenny from the block” and as for Lola ft. Pitball “Fresh out the oven” I’m certainly not reaching for my kitchen mitts!
