“Each Tear” will act as Mary J Blidge‘s second single off the queen of hip hop and R&B ninth album “Stronger” – the album hit #1 on the R&B Album chart, although the lack of commercial promotion for this album, it’s shown Mary J Blidge in a new light and this album has demonstrated her artist progression. Further more the song was re-recorded with several different artists to reflect the international markets. It is featured on editions of the album with one of five people: with Jay Sean for the UK - believe it or not, but adding Jay to the single for the UK is part of the huge Island Records marketing push in the UK and thus leading to his new LP release (but enough about him!).
I love this record, this is definitely running parallel to Mary J Blidge‘s and Ludacris‘ “Run Away Love” – vocals on the track are on point – the video is a little standard, however it really work but this song wont stick around for too long, with huge summer anthems being recorded as we speak this mello-ballad will not last. Saying that “Each Tear” is expected a high début thus keeping up with Mary J Blidge‘s high standards. In the US “We Got Hood Love” featuring Trey Songz is next on the release list – the video will drop any moment!
With Jay Sean pretty much withdrawing from the American market, close sources from UK Island Records have taken Jay Sean’s career in a “new direction” (hm right…). That meaning that it’s clear that Jay Sean (who failed to fill up all 600 seats at the Zankel Hall last night in New York), needs to return to the UK where his brand identity isn’t damaged to the extent it is in the states.
What UK Island Records told us that “it will take some time…it’s a creative process and cannot be rushed” – to me and you that means – Jay is going to do a disappearing act and then return! If Jay Sean decides to go down the Urban route he could pretty much piece together what’s left of his career – hopefully with the help of Island Records, maybe Jay could get a few singles of huge producers such a RedOne or even Darkchild, however huge names like that are reluctant to give away guaranteed hits to fail projects like Jay Sean.
It is literally make or brake for Jay Sean now, what he needs to understand is that he’s not a well enough established artist for him to afford to take huge breaks during his career, if anything he should be in the studio not recording that new album – if he leaves it too late it may cost him. Remember guys, Jay Sean is only in a one album contract with Island Records, and i’m sure they would be more than happy to let him go (right?), but then – they must of seen some potential to sign him in the first place!?
Congratulations to the Young Money family who’s début group album went Platinum this week after it’s release in December 2009. I have also come to learn that since the departure of Jay Sean (bo-ho) We Are Young Money is the first collaboration studio album from Young Money Entertainment. It was released on December 21, 2009.Featured guests are recently-signed Young Money artist Short Dawg, Lloyd, Birdman, and Gucci Mane (i see…).
Although a little surprising, as many people expected this album not to do so well – come on now, who does a label family album? – was it a desperate cry for some more money to bail Lil’ Wayne out? The album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200, selling 143,000 in its first week. The album was met with mixed reviews from critics and did well on the Billboard chart. The next week, the album dropped down three spots to #12, selling 42,000 copies. However after continuous airplays of the group single “BedRock” and huge circulation of other tracks off the LP, the album just about managed to certify Gold! – still platinum is a far cry away, but as they say…We Are Young Money.
Things have seems to go from bad to worse for Jay Sean! After his quite departure form Cash Money Records, Jay Sean was signed to Island Records (for a quarter of his market value!) where work would begin on his next LP and to save what remains of his R&B Pop career.
Jay already been labelled as one hit wonder in the states his album “All or Nothing” (which dropped off the Billboard Hot 200 within weeks of it’s release), hasn’t done him and justice and in fact the album as a result has lowered dramatically in price. Further more (yes there is more…) Jay lost out in an opportunity to feature in Young Money singled “BedRock” which featured all artists off the Cash Money label, the main chorus was meant to be sung Jay Sean, a last minute decision by Label owner Lil’ Wayne then invited Lloyd to sing the chorus. “BedRock” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hip-Hop R&B charts (ouch! Jay, you missed out!).
With all that said, Jay Sean did manage to steal the show at the AMA (Asian Music Awards), however his current management seemed to keep quite about the move of label! All that said Jay Sean has got a lot of work to commit himself to in order not to damage what’s left of his career. With no confirmation about how far into development the next LP is or a release date it’s likely we will not be hearing from Jay Sean in while (and you can count on that, with ever penny under the Island Def Jam group being spent on Justin Bieber – Jay Sean is not really a priority at the moment…sorry Jay!).
To everyone’s surprise Jay Sean was bought out of Cash Money Records (below his estimated market value) and his entire management team switched over the Island Records. With many music critics in the states claim that Jay Sean was a one hit wonder have already started talking about shelving his next album which is currently under production.
With that aside, Jay Sean in the UK has a huge fan base – however that still doesn’t answer the question why he failed get his album “All or Nothing” to even certify copper (let alone platinum). Cash Money Records seemed to put on a poor promotional tour, and with only experience in hardcore rap artists, they’ve lost their only “pop” act. I think there has been a break down between the fans and the artist, ever since Jay Sean left his original home (Rishi Rich Productions), meaning since signing to Cash Money some one got a little too big for their boots! Hopefully Island will re-brand and calm Jay Sean down, competition is tough out there! Bring on the come back album!
Neyo told us about what his top ten tips for Valentine’s Day were with an exclusive interview prior his concert this Sunday!
1. “Keep It Simple” – My most memorable Valentine’s Day was when I wasn’t even Ne-Yo yet – I was plain old Shaffer, living in a two-bed apartment in North Hollywood trying to figure out how I was going to get the rent paid. When you have money, it’s real easy to get a person a gift that costs a lot but doesn’t mean shit; back then I had to get the gift that cost nothing but meant everything, because I had no choice, I didn’t have any money to spend. I had a girlfriend at the time who loved peanut butter M&Ms. I bought a big economy-sized bag, and I took a piece of construction paper and I glued the M&Ms to the paper, and wrote a little poem for each colour – she had blonde hair at the time, so I put that yellow represents your hair, blah blah blah. And she freakin’ loved it.
2. “Don’t Just Buy Flowers” – I try to be a little unorthodox with gifts. Anyone can give you roses, anyone can give you candy, anybody can do that. It’s like “Oh crap, Valentine’s Day is here, let’s get her some … flowers!” That sucks. You have to pay attention to your woman to be aware of something that she said last year, that you’ve held on to, and you bring that something to life on Valentine’s Day. The fly way to do the flower thing is to find out what her favourite flower is without her telling you. Then visit her job while she’s working, and all of a sudden (more…)
Okay! so check this, Jay Sean has officially landed in London and is kicking off his album promotional tour here in London. The party is located in a Bank – according to Cash Money Records. The “Divo” will walk down the white carpet whilst dollar bills drop from the ceiling for his entrance.
Jay Sean arrived today with his 30 members of his entourage including his live musicians and backing vocalists (last time I checked he never did soul music!? why does his need an entire choirs of backing vocalists). Following the Mercedes from Airport were two larger vans full of Luis Vitton suitcases - a source told us.
So, it looks like Jay is really going to splash out on this one; he is inviting old friends who made the superstar big, reports of Rihanna and Alicia Keys (who will appear on tomorrow’s XFactor) are also going to attend the party.
“All or Nothing” being the title of the album (and after listening to certain cuts), really shows what this album is going to be. After his over publicized #1 track “Down” which replaced record breaker from the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Got The Feeling”.
Sean announced that he was recording five new songs for the album, one of which was his American-debut single with Lil Wayne, titled “Down” and confirmed that the album will be releasing in Summer 2009. However, it is now expected in November 2009, and will have a whole new set of songs and a couple of Cash Money (more…)
London’s very own international superstar in the making, has not only been hitting the gym, but the billboard charts! Recent single “Down” featuring record label manager Lil Wayne peaked at number 1 on the billboard’s hot 100 (taking over the Black Eyed Peas). Jay Sean’s return to music in 2008 was a lot different from his previous ethnic focused album “Me Against myself” which was home to UK hits such as “Eyes on you”, “Stolen” and “Dance With You”.
Medical college drop out, wanted to push his career towards the R&B stage, something he states he has wanted to do for along time. His recent deal with Cash Money Records allowed him to not only push him vocally but opened a new window of opportunities for the 28 year old. Jay Sean being criticized for his attempts of trying to mirror image Justin Timberlake’s album “futuresex / lovesounds” has been working on the album the late his new album from 2008, titled “All or Nothing”.
The album has collabourtions with the likes of the Sugababes, Livvi Frank, Sean Paul, Kevin Rudolf, Drake, Lil Wayne and Birdman. So for the first time in ages I’m looking forward to a Jay Sean album. The album is planned to be released during late November so the wait will not be that long for those who are dieing to see what raw British talent can do over seas! (no I’m not talking about Leona!). So expect “All or Nothing” to be what it states…all or nothing!
