Ginuwine attacks Timbaland!?
Apr 13th
In an interview with Vibe Magazine, Ginuwine “expressed” his feelings (if that’s what you want to call it) towards old friend and mentor Timbaland, The 39 year old expressed his displeasure at being shunned by the hitmaker when recording his most recent LP, ‘A Mans Thoughts’, which debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 last June (aw, how emotional!).
Some will remember Ginuwine, along with Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and the late Aaliyah were the huge chart topping forces back in the 90s! But then we all know (along side his increasing weight and health problem!) Timbaland loves to add news friends to his place (you get that? plate/food – I crack myself up!). Here is what Ginuwine told Vibe Magazine.
“He really hasn’t been interested in working with me, so I can’t speak on the present,” what Ginuwine tells VIBE of Timbaland. “But back in the days, it spoke for itself as far as him being the most sought after producer. Music was boring until he came out with that new sound. Back then, I would have described it as futuristic because it was something that had not been done and people jumped on it. If it wasn’t for him making that style as hot as it is, a lot of producers that’s out now maybe wouldn’t even be here.”
The singer adds that he’s still upset at Timbaland (but hey, what can you do?) for not supporting him promotionally on his 2009 project, A Man’s Thoughts, despite producing a song for the album. Read the rest of this entry »
Ginuwine is back? A Man’s Thoughts (2 stars)
Oct 17th
Ginuwine has seemed to struggle with pushing his sixth studio album “A Man’s Thoughts”, right from mild samples and vocal layering, the 34 year old really hit the note (meaning that this is it!), he simply cannot do this anymore.
Attempting to sound like the winter pop ballads produced in 2006 by Lloyd, Joe, Tyrese and Avant, in every way possible he fails (so bad it hurts). Although Ginuwine didn’t recive alot of help on this album it took him 3 years to record “A Man’s thoughts”. Sources tell us that Ginuwine rejected offers of co-producing the album with hit makers The-Dream and Keri Hilson.
Since going to new record label Notifi Music Group (home and household of Twista) Genuwine has changed the style of voice by singing in a mid-key through out an entire song (and i mean everyone!). The album is very dry and bland, something typical from Notifi. It feels like the new record label and new look has squeezed “So Anxious” soulful Ginuwine, and pushing him out of his comfort zone.
Listening to the entire album (big mistake) makes me wonder what happened to the great slow jams Genuwine? clearly by track number 4 you can tell that the days “In Those Jeans” where long gone and now a more hip-hop focused career seems to be present. So who is the blame for Genuwine’s fall off his “Pony”? – i blame Notifi, for giving talented Genuwine a poor set of producers (something you’d hand to a new commer) and huge miss judgement of Genuwine’s return to the R&B Soul scene. There is still a space in the market for a male soul act; now with the departure of Brain McKnight, Pretty Ricky and Lloyd (no one knows where he is!?). It’s a real big shame that Genuwine fell so flat on his face, with the album only peaking 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and dropping a huge 37 places the following week (same happened in the R&B Album chart from it’s #1 place).
The first single of the album was “Last Chance” (very practical for this album), with the video reminding me of Lloyd’s “Get it Shawty” and Tyrese’s “Pulling Me Back”, it felt like all the in sync dancing and the bridge background with the dark alley, flash car and TV actress appearance has all been done before.
The video isn’t bad for a Genuwine video (we clearly know that previous video productions turned into a huge mess), staring Lisa Raye (Neesee from “All of Us” – by the way she looks like she gained a bit of weight in the “Hindquarters”, Ms Raye are we expecting?) and Tyrese adds the element of R&B into the lyrics and sample. However nothing will really fight the cheesiness of this tune and for many people who may still like this tune…you will slowly love to hate it.
