Drake feat. Lil Wayne “Miss Me”

Yes that’s right, Drake finally dropped another video from his amazing album “Thank Me Later“, although not one that we would of all exptected, “Miss Me” featuring Lil Wayne which debuted at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 was directed by Anthony Mandler. – But hey we are not complaining! The video is pretty following the story of a dark even with Drake and Lil Wayne rapping in some field in the middle of some hill-billy state – yes, another low budget video (sigh). Maybe this has got to do with this whole “welcome back” concert for Lil Wayne? most likely I cannot find any other reason why Motown would decide to put this okay-ish track out after a great lead of singles!

This was a good video. However, I wonder why this track was chosen as the new single instead of ”Up All Night“, “Shut It Down” or the much awaited “Fancy“. Certainly Drake wanted to release a single featuring his mentor but the Minaj collaboration is a much stronger song never the less with growing hype for T.I that would of mixed well too – and the The-Dream track is a genuine great record!. Besides, with the hype surrounding Drake, Minaj and T.I. (not so for The-Dream) at the moment, it would have proven to be a guaranteed smash. O well. Life goes on. Read the rest of this entry »

Drake announces welcome home concert for Lil Wayne

A fitting homecoming is already being planned for Lil Wayne. The day after he is expected to be released from jail, the Cash Money rapper will celebrate by throwing a welcome home concert.

Drake made the announcement during his Ustream session on Thursday, saying it would take place on November 5, but an exact location was not disclosed. Drizzy has a show the day before in Los Angeles and the day after in Las Vegas. Lil Wayne is serving his time at Rikers Island in New York.

“Undisclosed location, November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” said Wayne’s protégé while sipping on Pinot Grigio in his Toronto crib. “You might as well camp out at all different locations. That’s gonna be crazy.” – Saying that i’m still wondering when Drake will begin his world wide arena tour? – Although announced by his label there was no follow up!

Lil Wayne has been serving time for weapons charges since March. He is expected to be released on November 4. His EP, “I Am Not a Human Being“, will arrive on his 28th birthday on September 27. I’m sure that this private concert for Lil Wayne will be the crème of the crème and I’m sure that Drake will line up everyone across the land to turn up to this…now let just hope no get arrested again! Drake’s ‘Fancy’ was Mary J. Blige’s song first, Swizz Beatz reveals

“‘Fancy‘ has been well-traveled,” said Swizz Beatz, who produced the song. “It started off as a Swizz record. Then I got Mary [J. Blige] on it. It was supposed to be on her [Stronger With Each Tear], but we missed the deadline. Then I pulled it back for my [upcoming] record. Then five o’clock one morning, on the phone speaking with Drake, he’s in a different time zone, we’re trying to figure out what he needs [for his album]. He’s like, ‘Yo, I just need a record for the ladies.’ I’m on my computer playing him joints over the phone. Then I played him ‘Fancy.’ I was like, ‘You want something like this?’ But I was playing it as a reference.”

On the original version of “Fancy,” Swizz raps about an educated girl who works at the Guggenheim Museum, while MJB sang about an independent female. “She got it all together,” Blige sings. “She don’t need you to help her/ She got her own paper/ She don’t need you to take her on a shopping spree/ My girl’s fancy, fly and free.” Drake didn’t want something like what Swizz played; he wanted that exact song for his album. ”He was like, ‘That’s the record I need,’ ” Swizz recalled. “I said, ‘OK, I’ll make you that.’ ” Drake replied: “No. That’s the record I need.”

“I’m a producer first,” Swizz said. “So he can have the record. I’m still on it, it’s still love. He’s a heck of an artist, and I feel no ways but honored.” The finished version of the song we hear on the album features Drake, Swizz and T.I., but at least one other MC was on the wish list to be on the song. ”Andre 3000 was supposed to be on ‘Fancy,’ ” Swizz revealed. “Drake had a group of people he wanted to be on it: Andre, Tip, this one, that one. But the deadline for the album rushed a lot of things. [Drake] can tell you the rest, but Tip just wound up being on it. Which I’m cool with, cause that’s the homie.”. Drake is filming the videos for “Fancy” and “Miss Me” this week in Atlanta. Read the rest of this entry »

Alicia Keys talks Beatz and her pregnancy

R&B singer Alicia Keys, who is currently five months pregnant with her first child by her fiancé and music producer Swizz Beatz, is apparently loving everything about being pregnant.

The 29-year-old hit-maker said that she needs to be peaceful and happy during her pregnancy and that impending  motherhood has changed her.

Alicia Keys told us “Oh, I love children and I love family and I love that interaction. Because I had a really close relationship with my mother I understand that deep powerful love, and it’s so beautiful. To be a mother to a child is the most brilliant gift, it’s gorgeous.”. I’m sure this is all an exciting moment for Alicia Keys, however the “No One” singer seems to be making slightly more public appearances now from when she was promoting her “Element of Freedom” album? Is someone trying to cover-up all the drama that’s gone on with their management?, I think so!

Alicia Keys then went on to say “I’m definitely in a place where I have a different sensibility about things. I remember how I used to be, ‘I’m going on the road and I’m

back when I’m back and I’m probably gone a long time.”, she also then denied rumours of her secret wedding which was meant to happen this weekend to Swizz Beatz! Looks like we just going to have to wait till the baby comes! Read the rest of this entry »

Nicki Minaj “Your Love”

That’s right, the much awaited video to Nicki Minaj’s single “Your Love” has dropped! Although “Your Love” was never intended to be released by the Young Money Group, however leaks on Youtube lead Nicki Minaj to garner her first solo #1 on the Billboard Rap 100 which made her the first solo female rapper to top the Rap Chart in 8 years!.

The video works well with the track, yet (dare I say it!) this is another recession friendly video – hey maybe that all the rage in the US at the moment! While seemingly low budget, the clip captured the essence of the song well without going the typical route that most Hip-Hop acts would have taken – clubs, stripper poles and money raining from the sky (no names need to be mentioned). Nicki Minaj looks remarkably “health” (and by that, maybe the budget was spend on making her face so god dam flawless!) in the video, and yes, she’s got a new set of weave!

Your Love” has already climbed to #18 on the US Billboard hot 100, it’s release is expected in Europe this weekend titled “Your Love The EP”. Unlike “Massive Attack“, it’s nice to see Nicki Minaj do something toned down, however for many critics this video has confused them about what to expect from Nicki Minaj’s album which is due to drop this November. Either way the track will do well, and at times the video does remind me of Beyonce’s “Check On It” – maybe they used the same silk sheets? Remember The MoMo Show is set to interview Nicki Minaj this August – so keep it locked for chances to win a meet and great with the first lady of Young Money! Read the rest of this entry »

Drake starts work on new album

Well with no surprise, Drake told all his fans via his twitter that he’s started work on this new album…already, and may even release it at the end of this year!

Sources told us that the platinum selling rap star a month after releasing his debut album “Thank Me Later“, he’s is already working on the follow-up. He made the announcement to his fans during a late-night Twitter session.

Blame it on the alcohol or just a natural high, but the typically reserved Tweeter shared a little more than usual with his 800,000+ followers. “Started my new album last night too…ok I’m done…” he wrote. “Miss me video tmrw at 9am…tipsy…maybe? naaaaaaah….maybe tho.”

Drizzy also took the time to promote Trey Songz’ upcoming album ”Passion, Pain, & Pleasure“. “MY BROTHER TREY GOT THAT ALBUM I BEEN WAITING FOR!!! SEPTEMBER 14th…take my word for it!!!!!!!!” Trey gave his longtime Canadian pal a sneak peek at the project, whose first single “Bottoms Up” features Nicki Minaj. “I just heard Songz album in his whip in Atlanta while we were drinking Hennessy…shit felt like 07…I’m so proud!” he tweeted.

In addition to “Miss Me,” Drake will reunite with director Anthony Mandler to shoot a video for “Fancy” with T.I. and Swizz Beatz later this week. “Fancy” (a MoMo personal favourite off the album) will be released as the third single off the platinum certified album “Thank Me Later“. Swizz Beatz tells us about T.I. and his progression

Fresh off Drake’s album with “Fancy”, Swizz Beatz (pictured with his two kids) talks to us about how T.I.’s both film and album are coming along since they’ve been pushed back! Swizz said that T.I. is looking to out-do some of his past hits with the tracks on this forthcoming project titled “King Uncaged“.

The Hip-Hop producers and now Alicia Keys‘ new partner said “What we just did is bigger than those. It’s bigger than “Swing Ya Rag“, it’s bigger than all of those. We’re growing as artists. That’s one of the things I wanted to focus on with Tip, was: ‘We did that already. We don’t need to compete with nobody. You up there.’ Everything we gotta do, we gotta stay leaders. That’s how we got to where we at now.” – Needless to say many Swizz Beatz tracks do well on the Hip-Hop/Rap scene, only looking a few months back with Jadakiss‘ “Who’s Real” only demonstrates the talent that Swizz Beatz has.

He then went on to say “He gave me his OK on that. Gave me the clear lane. And we’re gone. Trust me on that. The first joint, it’s nice. Crazy! The second joint is taking the world over. It’s a positive message, and I’ll let him explain the rest of the story, because he would be glad to. It’s very musical, but still with that swag in it.” – T.I.’s “King Uncaged” and film “Takers” is scheduled for release this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Bow Wow struggles to land front covers

Bow Wow has spoken about his past struggles when it comes to landing magazine cover features.

The rapper has revealed that although things have improved for him, he is determined to appear on the cover of hip-hop’s biggest selling publication, XXL Magazine.

He wrote on his blog: “So today I’m shooting my cover for Murder Dog mag. I’m excited because I remember when it was hard for me to get covers on some of hip-hop magazines. It took a long time to get source cover, but eventually I did. If only i can get XXL, but that’s another story.” Well I’m not surprised, with no recent acting or music work fresh from Bow Wow, why would anyone want them on their front cover let alone get excited about him!

“I just say respect the work, and music. At the end of the day it’s all about politics. So all my fans be on the lookout for the cover.” – huh? So it’s clear that Bow Wow is admitting that he’s PR team are having a little issues and that it’s very clear now that the public has lost a lot of interest in him.

In other news Bow Wow confirmed to us that “Who Is Shad Moss?” is the upcoming seventh studio album by the rapper, slated for release in 2010. This should be interesting as the first album to be released under the Cash Money label. The new album is set to be a double CD release with it’s main producers of the likes of Jermaine Dupri.

Ludacris “My Chick Bad” ft. Nicki Minaj

Despite low sales of Ludacris‘ “Battle of the Sexes“, he continues to push out his second single from the album titled “My Chick Bad” featuring the one and only Nicki Minaj. “My Chick Bad” is a good follow on from the R&B/Hip-Hop #1 single “How Low” and with a remix video already waiting to be released this single should do well…right!? Sources told us the plot for the main video is Ludacris is directing a movie but however the filming is on break. During that time Ludacris begins to brag about his “girl” towards the other cast members. Later in the video we see Nicki Minaj is the actress of the film and is found lying in a couch, held by restraints. The video ends with Ludacris and Nicki singing and generally having a good time.

So in a nut shell; it’s a typical Ludacris video; Luda is going to have to work hard to get any more attention to his LP with Drake soaking up all the limelight with LP “Thank Me Later“, no one seems to be getting excited for “Battle of the Sexes“. Interestingly seeing as Drake worked with most huge rappers under the Universal umbrella (eh eh eh) he didn’t seem to put Ludacris on his wish list!? Although personally a track with Ludacris and Drake would of been “Dope” and would of been rather successful; you wonder why, when given the opportunity they didn’t do it…very interesting! Roll over to watch the remix video! Read the rest of this entry »

Drake’s “Thank Me Later” certified Gold in first week of sale

Motown Records released official sale figures (before they should…hm) for highly anticipated album “Thank Me Later“; even only two weeks ago the entire album was leaked onto the internet, the LP has seen strong sale had topped records for 2010’s biggest opening week sales. Currently “Thank Me Later” is at #1 on the Billboard Hip-Hop Album chart and is climbing up the Hot 200 chart. With further promotion yet to some Young Money has never seen success like this for a long time!

Thank Me Later” shipped 517k units of the album world wide; and with 4 #1 R&B tracks supporting the 15 track LP certifying Platinum is not a far way to go. With Drake currently still on his promotional tour, Motown’s headquarters and Young Money have already started planning a larger scale Arena world tour for Drake! Over all the album is simply one of the best of our time. From each track the album not only flows well but is well produced and runs on more a traditional Hip-Hop vibe however his breaks of sung rap R&B cuts complete the entire package. Although the album art work for “Thank Me Later” is rather disappointing; it’s a prime example that you shouldn’t judge a album by it’s cover! “Thank Me Later” is MoMo’s Best Buy of 2010!
