Lil Wayne ft. Eminem “Drop The World”

This is the first track (in the style of a) Rock-Ballad from rapper Lil Wayne. This will act as the anthem to Lil Wayne‘s album “Rebirth” the week ending January 16, 2010, selling 162,526 downloads and debuting at #18, and now is climbing the charts again. Despite a generally negative reception for “Rebirth“, ”Drop the World” received reviews that were more positive. “Drop the World” was the most anticipated song from the album, partly because it features Eminem. With all respect, i’m slightly confused over this EP – Lil Wayne‘s style of rap has changed which is demonstrated through the album.

In addition rumours are that Lil Wayne is working on his new album “Tha Carter IV” which will be album number eight for the rapper. So far what we’ve been told is that this album will have no roots of previous rap-rock album “Rebirth“, however this album will be featured around the Young Money family. In other news it’s been confirmed that Cash Money Records will be doing a world tour with all acts, not that’s something i’m looking forward to.

Drake’s album gets pushed back again!

With his new song, ‘Over’, climbing the charts and his fans begging for the release of the music video for the track, Drake has decided to add even more suspense to the mix. The rapper’s debut album, ‘Thank Me Later’, has been delayed from it’s original release date of May 25th to June 15th. Drake embarked on the Away From Home Tour last evening at Slippery Rock University and is expected to perform material from the album at some of the shows including a track entitled ‘Fireworks’ is what a source tells us.

With his release of a quick mixtape of tracks including “Best I Ever Had” – Drake has been working on this album for along time, and after his quite and quick engagement to lover Nicki Minaj – it’s seems a bit too domino effect like! With so far, very few confirmed singles on the track I’m starting to wonder if he’s even finished the album? Saying that the catalogue of features that Drake has stacked up will drag a lot of attention to the album. All in all listening to the samples that have been leaked this album is going to be one of very few traditional, hardcore yet old skool rap to be released in 2010, for my Hip-Hop fans you might be relieved to hear that this album doesn’t have a huge R&B influence nor presence. The album’s release is a joint venture between Cash Money and Universal Motown so maybe the push back could be a result of paper work (sources have told me some samples have been used in the tracks). I’m looking forward to this album! To listen to Drake‘s new singled “Over” – video coming soon! (more…)

Drake and Nicki Minaj Engaged?

With Nicki Minaj enjoying the life of being Cash Money’s biggest selling female artist, may have also been given another unexpected present. Label co-worker and now rumoured fiancée Drake (who is currently working on his next LP) along side with Nicki Minaj featured on the cover of XXL Magazine for this month’s edition.

It’s been clear that the two have had something going on, appearing together at GQ’s Man of the Year after party and in their recent cameo appearance in the #1 R&B single “BedRock” with Young Money. Close sources confirmed that Drake who is currently in New York visited an exclusive jeweller and purchased (price to be confirmed at the moment) a what appeared to be an engagement ring for Nicki Minaj – her people have told us that she is on a “short break” before she returns to the studio and start planning the “We Are Young Money World Tour” that is suggested to start late November.

So could it be true? Nicki Minaj and Drake could be having a quick and quite (well not so quite) wedding? To be fair, everything adds up but i find it hard to believe that Nicki Minaj would want to settle down as a wife to a commercially growing rapper! After all that would mean a huge image change…right? (It would be nice to see her wedding dress), Remember you herd it first here on The MoMo Show! I will be giving you live updates asap!

Young Money Album Certified Gold

Congratulations to the Young Money family who’s début group album went Platinum this week after it’s release in December 2009. I have also come to learn that since the departure of Jay Sean (bo-ho) We Are Young Money is the first collaboration studio album from Young Money Entertainment. It was released on December 21, 2009. Featured guests are recently-signed Young Money artist Short Dawg, Lloyd, Birdman, and Gucci Mane (i see…).

Although a little surprising, as many people expected this album not to do so well – come on now, who does a label family album? – was it a desperate cry for some more money to bail Lil’ Wayne out? The album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200, selling 143,000 in its first week. The album was met with mixed reviews from critics and did well on the Billboard chart. The next week, the album dropped down three spots to #12, selling 42,000 copies. However after continuous airplays of the group single “BedRock” and huge circulation of other tracks off the LP, the album just about managed to certify Gold! – still platinum is a far cry away, but as they say…We Are Young Money.

Cash Money, No Money!

To everyone’s surprise Jay Sean was bought out of Cash Money Records (below his estimated market value) and his entire management team switched over the Island Records. With many music critics in the states claim that Jay Sean was a one hit wonder have already started talking about shelving his next album which is currently under production.

With that aside, Jay Sean in the UK has a huge fan base – however that still doesn’t  answer the question why he failed get his album “All or Nothing” to even certify copper (let alone platinum). Cash Money Records seemed to put on a poor promotional tour, and with only experience in hardcore rap artists, they’ve lost their only “pop” act. I think there has been a break down between the fans and the artist, ever since Jay Sean left his original home (Rishi Rich Productions), meaning since signing to Cash Money some one got a little too big for their boots! Hopefully Island will re-brand and calm Jay Sean down, competition is tough out there! Bring on the come back album!
