Trey Songz displays new hair cut…

First he chopped his braids off and now Trey Songz is shaving the side of his head, but only temporarily. The ladies’ man shared his latest look with his Twitter followers while on set of his “Love Faces” video in Miami this weekend.

“Shout to my man @smoeksapreem, just gave me my new look for the #lovefaces video. Cassie get at me,” he tweeted. But the cut didn’t last for long. Trigga shaved the rest of his head by the time cameras rolled. “Been left that shit,” he said.

Trey will kick off his “Love Faces” tour on February 11 with opening act Lloyd. The four-day trek will travel to New YorkCity, Washington, D.C., and Detroit, before wrapping on Valentine’s Day in Chicago.

I suppose this is the only thing of any interest that is going on with Trey Songz, after his failure of an album (of which’s title I cannot seem to recall) – pressure from his label forced him back into the studio.

Last year rumours broke out that Trey Songz was ready to leave Atlantic, however those where quickly dismissed. Trey Songz is set to hit the UK with his soul brother Ne-Yo, plans for any other album is yet to be confirmed, however close sources have told us a new LP is in discussion between his label and himself. Island Def Jam showcase Jennifer Lopez’s new album…

Jennifer Lopez feels the Love? on the cover of her seventh album, due on Island Def Jam next year. Chosen as one of Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010,” J.Lo revealed the artwork during her interview last night, with the singer-actress decked out in diamonds and a fur coat while she looks off into the distance.

Additionally, the entertainer spoke about her upcoming judging gig on the 2011 season of “American Idol” and the hesitancy she felt in agreeing to it. “When they first offered it to me, I was like, no. And then I thought to myself, I’ll be at home with the babies. It just seemed like, wow, we can have a little bit of a normal life for like, seven months. That would be fun!” she exclaimed.

J.Lo also spoke on keeping it real when it comes to judging the contestants. “I can be honest, but I don’t like being mean. I don’t like when people are mean to me, so I don’t want to be mean to anybody,” (more…)

Usher doing his last minute Christmas shopping

Usher spent the day off from his “OMG Tour” shopping for clothes for his sons in New York City’s SoHo district. A scruffy Ursh was snapped at the Diesel store, picking up pricey pants and jackets for Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond, making sure they look just as sharp as their dad. He will play Madison Square Garden on Monday.

When Usher chose a fan to serenade at one of his concerts, we bet he didn’t expect to get kicked in the face! But that’s exactly what happened when a fan got a bit to excited and tried to whip her leg over Usher.

With the footage caught on video, the fan who nearly knocked Usher out, must be under a rock, dying of embarrassment right this moment. However, Usher is seeing the funny side of things telling the fan through:“Wherever you are baby, don’t feel bad. No hard feelings.”

He continued: “In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it! It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh.”. Usher is expected to play in the UK this February to a sold out venue. Although fans where disappointed to find out that no further extra dates were added to the “OMG Tour” – that still won’t stop them from doing anything to get their kick out of Usher! (more…)

T.I. shows “No Mercy” on the album charts…

Though Susan Boyle continues to hold the crown with her sophomore offering The Gift, T.I. makes a splash on the Billboard 200 this week with his seventh album No Mercy, earning the highest-charting debut for any new album entering the fold.

The incarcerated rapper bows at No. 4 this week with his latest LP, moving 159,000 copies. While the album is a success by industry standards, it marks the first time that Tip hasn’t debuted at No. 1 since 2004 when Urban Legendentered the chart at No. 7. Comparatively, 2008’s Paper Trailscored a chart-topping debut with 568,000 units.

T.I. thanked his fans for their support. “First off I’d like to thank everybody again for going out and supporting the hustle yet again with No Mercy last week,” he wrote on his blog. “I can’t say enough on how much I appreciate the support and all the positive feedback. I read so many tweets, letters, reviews, and comments that spoke volumes to how much love was still out there and how much respect still exists for my art and my passion.”

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday continues to go strong in its third week on the chart, climbing two spots to No. 6 with another 82,000 units. Rihanna’s latest set Loud makes the move up to No. 9 with an additional 71,000. (more…)

Drake’s “Take Care” will walk all over “Thank Me Later”

Seems like Drake is taking the same approach to “Take Care” like he did with “Thank Me Later“. Drake who is currently touring and expected to hit the UK during February is recording his second album titled “Take Care” which is expected to hit stores April 2011.

Close sources to the Young Money rapper told us he is currently working with an underground producer called 9th Wonder and was photographed leaving a studio from where DJ Premier works in New York. Whilst industry press are still confused with the single line up of “Thank Me Later“, huge radio hits such as “Fancy“, “Shut It Down” and “Show Me A Good Time” never see the light of day for the singles shelf.

Yet again this just simply highlights the repeat mistakes that Young Money make when it comes down to the whole album launch and single line up - may I add the video for “Fancy” which featured T.I. and Swizz Beats was shot and ready to be sent to MTV when officials at the label decided to withdraw the entire single from commercial circulation.

From what out sources say, “Take Care” will walk all over “Thank Me Later“, with Universal Motown now more involved in the entire process of album (and Lil Wayne, who couldn’t take care of the business strategy as he was in prison) this LP may just push Drake even further in his already outstanding career. Rihanna wants a duet with Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle may have outsold Rihanna for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts, but there’s no bad blood between the female stars. In fact, the Scottish singer recently spoke on wanting to collaborate with the Bajan songstress, with RiRi reciprocating the offer.

“There are certain types of music that you’re good at and certain types that you’re not. I mean, would I be good at R&B? I suppose you never know. Maybe me and Rihanna could get together,” said the “I Dreamed a Dream” singer.

The red-haired siren took to her Twitter page to share her excitement about a possible duet with Boyle. “Hold up! I might be a lil late, but just heard that THEE SuBo wants to collab wit ME??!? I’m game, doesn’t get much cooler than this. #BOOM,” she wrote.

Boyle’s holiday album The Gift entered at the top of the charts two weeks ago with 318,000 copies sold. Her second week sales totaled 335,000, which was enough to put Rihanna at No. 3 with her latest Loud.

Rihanna is not the only unlikely artist open to working with the former “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant. 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg previously expressed their interest in a SuBo collabo. (yawn!) – But in all honesty a project like this will never see the light of day! (more…)

Leona Lewis shops with new found “friend” Angela Simmons

As odd as it may seem, yes they are friends. So Leona Lewis and Angela Simmons we spotted doing some Christmas shopping in LA this week – and I’m sure we are all thinking where has Leona Lewis been? (right?). After her flop of an album “Echo” and her short tour you’d think she is working on a new album.

Well maybe Leona Lewis wants to get close to Miss Simmons to maybe leave Sony Music and join the ever growing Island Def Jam, and I mean this is of course supported by the fact that she revealed that she will not appear as a guest performer on this year’s X Factor.

Leona told fans the news during a live webchat via UStream yesterday evening. Leona said that she will not appear on the show this year so she can “fully concentrate” on her third studio album, which is slated for release in summer 2011. – Which may I remind you, there is no confirmation about who is managing this project! (Could this mean issues with her management?)

The star further confirmed that she has not been booked to appear on any “major shows” in the near future. (ouch!) (more…)

A big week for Hip-Hop!

Hip-hop looks to dominate next week’s Billboard charts. After a week filled with high-profile releases, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj are on track to outsell the competition and take the top two spots. According to sources, which forecasts album sales, Kanye West’s highly-acclaimed fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is expected to sell 525-575,000 copies in its first week in stores, coming in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Meanwhile, ‘Ye’s collaborator Nicki Minaj will have a “Monster” opening week herself with 375-400,000 copies of her debut Pink Friday. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill currently holds the title for most albums sold by a female MC in one week with 422,000 when it debuted in 1998.

Elsewhere on the charts, Rihanna’s Loud is benefiting from Thanksgiving week sales in its second week with 140-160,000, with her labelmate Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic on par with those numbers. Despite delays and an early leak, Ne-Yo’s fourth LP Libra Scale could dance away with 120-140,000, putting it in the top 10. These figures could see a boost due to the busy Black Friday shopping weekend. Nelly lashes out at Universal Motown

With the lead single “Just A Dream” off the new album 5.0 shifting just over two million (making that a double platinum hit), it still doesn’t explain why Nelly’s album only shifted 63,000 in it’s opening week. The rapper/singer lashed out at label Universal Motown.

And I mean what classier way to say it to your label than your twitter! (of course!) Nelly said “ A record deal is a 50/50 partnership! As a artist its your job to provide the record company with music that they (record company) can sell! Thing about the partnership is thati n the public eye the responsibility is not 50/50! The artist is always the 1who catches 90% of the blame. When a artist doesn’t deliver sufficient material they(artist) gets its budget cut for next album or worse dropped from the label!” (ouch!) I mean without a doubt it’s pretty true and Nelly has got a valid point.

“So not only is the label ur partner but also disciplinarian and 90% of the time the one who decides if the partnership continues! No doubt wen a artist doesn’t deliver a song that does crack top of the charts or even top10 the label is quick to say artist didn’t deliver. So intern the artist must bare the brunt of that failure and take responsibility and consequences as handed out by his or her label!!” At this point I would assume those following him on twitter are now wondering if Nelly is having a break down! I think Nelly has all the right to be angry, I mean there was no “good” follow up single after “Just A Dream” – read the rest of his lash out against the record label (more…)

J. Cole’s début album will be ready for spring…

Now that J. Cole has given fans the appetizer with his latest mixtape Friday Night Lights, he’s focusing his attention on the main course. The “Who Dat” rapper shares a few more details about his highly-anticipated debut.

“The album could be done. If I needed to put it out next week, I would be able to,” the Roc Nation signee tells us. “My expectations were already super high and I think the fans’ were too, but now that the mixtape is out and the response is what it is, I kinda want to go back in and do a few more songs that are that much better, just to boost the level of the album.”

He is now eyeing a spring drop date for the project. “I think we’re looking at a March release date or something around there with the single coming in a couple weeks.”

While he wouldn’t reveal the song’s title, he did hint at a guest appearance. “As of right now, it has a feature,” he says of the undisclosed tune, adding, “I think it’s what a lot people been waiting on.” And despite Cole World being thrown around, he has not announced an official title. “I never announced that as the name of the album, but it’s a sick title. I did think about that as a possibility, but as of right now, that’s not the title,” (more…)
