Chris Brown appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom today where a judge lifted the restraining order prohibiting him from going near ex-girlfriend Rihanna, reports US sources. Judge Patricia Schnegg reduced the ban to level one, meaning that the former couple can have contact as long as Brown doesn’t “harass, annoy, or molest her.”

A solemn Breezy, wearing a gray suit, sat beside his attorney Mark Geragos, who spoke on behalf of his client. The 21-year-old singer nodded when the judge asked if he wanted to waive his next court appearance.

Rihanna’s lawyer Donald Etra appeared on her behalf, telling the judge that she had no objection to the new ruling. “I have spoken with my client and she does not object to the reduction from the stay away order to the level one, or the do not annoy, molest, or harass order,” said Etra.

Brown initially requested the removal of the restraining order after completing his 52-week domestic violence counseling last month, and will remain on probation until 2014.

The rich just keep on getting richer! A star is about to be reborn. Following reports that Will Smith was rebooting the 1982 musical film Annie starring his daughter Willow and featuring music from Jay-Z, the remake is official, with the announcement that Smith’s OverbrookEntertainment is partnering with Jay-Z to develop and produce major motion pictures, beginning with Annie.

Sources say Overbrook, run by Will, his wife Jada Pinkett, and partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz, first teamed with Hov to co-invest in beauty products line Carol’s Daughter, later partnering to produce the Broadway musical “Fela!”

“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award-winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”

It’s currently unclear if the Roc Nation chief will handle musical duties for Annie‘s soundtrack, but 10-year-old Willow will star in the remake, with Sony Pictures Entertainmentdeveloping the flick.

The singing sensation, riding on the success of her platinum single “Whip My Hair,” is prepping its follow-up “21st Century Girl,” with her debut album slated for spring.

Rihanna is one busy bee. Right after appearing on Saturday Night Live this weekend, she popped up on last night’s U.K. edition of The X Factor.

Her performance of current hit “Only Girl (In the World)” on X Factor bested the SNL version for a few reasons. Most important was the sound mix: SNL‘s was as perversely muddy as it is for most musical guests, while X Factor actually made it possible to hear the synth stabs that are this song’s reason for being.

Also, Rihanna got caught up in a food fight on X Factor. She was performing on some sort of banquet-table set; about halfway through the song, her backup dancers started hurling baked goods at one another. It was pretty entertaining…

How did you link up with Usher? “Well, Usher and I first started collaborating work-wise on the “I Invented Sex (Remix),” but we’ve known each other for a while and he’s always been someone I could come to for advice. Furthermore, he’s paved the way for guys like myself to even do what we do. So to go on tour with Usher, who’s now at iconic status—I believe—and for me to be involved and to know that I mean something to the tour is an amazing feeling.”

What kind of influence has he had on your career? “Well Usher was one of the first young sex symbol kind of artists of my generation.
