Nicki Minaj “Your Love”
That’s right, the much awaited video to Nicki Minaj‘s single “Your Love” has dropped! Although “Your Love” was never intended to be released by the Young Money Group, however leaks on Youtube lead Nicki Minaj to garner her first solo #1 on the Billboard Rap 100 which made her the first solo female rapper to top the Rap Chart in 8 years!.
The video works well with the track, yet (dare I say it!) this is another recession friendly video – hey maybe that all the rage in the US at the moment! While seemingly low budget, the clip captured the essence of the song well without going the typical route that most Hip-Hop acts would have taken – clubs, stripper poles and money raining from the sky (no names need to be mentioned). Nicki Minaj looks remarkably “health” (and by that, maybe the budget was spend on making her face so god dam flawless!) in the video, and yes, she’s got a new set of weave!
“Your Love” has already climbed to #18 on the US Billboard hot 100, it’s release is expected in Europe this weekend titled “Your Love The EP”. Unlike “Massive Attack“, it’s nice to see Nicki Minaj do something toned down, however for many critics this video has confused them about what to expect from Nicki Minaj‘s album which is due to drop this November. Either way the track will do well, and at times the video does remind me of Beyonce’s “Check On It” – maybe they used the same silk sheets? I must admit, first and foremost, that this was my very first time hearing the song. With it’s R&B poppy sound, Nicki Minaj’s idioms and metaphorical lyrics rapping all over the song, it could be easily a Top 10 hit on both of the Billboard charts (sidebar: which has caused me to wonder, do you think that the Caucasian community would embrace a female rapper like Minaj or have they accepted Hip-Hop for what it has become in general?). Now that there’s a visual tone to the song to complete the package, “Your Love” could easily promote itself as fans anxiously awaits for Nicki’s upcoming album to drop in November. Might I add, I think Nicki looks extremely beautiful in every scence.
The video is good , but the song still the biggest mistake of 2010 ! I can’t believe people like it !

to make it as a complete costume… if they get that idea from Anime, then forget it.

I instantly liked the song when i first heard the ANNIE LENNOX Sample. THe video is subtle and inventive. Creative and not corny. I like this subdued Minaj better than the caricatures of past rap FEMCEES that she has portrayed to date. This was well done, and I think the video is a compliment to the song. Finally i see some potential. Good job, visually, I like this. Very symbolic.

That video… no honey… it was a bit overkill with the cloth. It started out cute but somewhere in the middle it just got tacky. The ending was overdone as well… I get what they were trying to do, but it came off cheesy.

she went to the middle with this video treatment and with her gimmick. it worked. ppl are real tired of her extremes. this is much more palletable and she will gain many more fans taking this route of subtlety. she is far more enjoyable like this. no jumbo lumpy ass meat, no over the top animated faces, toned down on the lil kim’isms.
